FPIK UNDIP and SEAFDEC Launch Strategic Partnership for Sustainable Fisheries

UNDIP, Semarang (June 5, 2025) – The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences at Universitas Diponegoro (FPIK UNDIP) has officially established a strategic partnership with the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC). The collaboration was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on Wednesday, June 5, 2025, at the Dean’s Conference Room, 2nd Floor, Building A, FPIK UNDIP, Tembalang.

The event began with an introductory session between the two institutions, both of which share a common vision of advancing sustainable fisheries in Southeast Asia. In his remarks, FPIK UNDIP Dean Prof. Agus Trianto, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., expressed his appreciation for the partnership and emphasized the importance of synergy between academic institutions and regional research organizations, such as SEAFDEC, in fostering innovative and sustainable fisheries development.

SEAFDEC Secretary-General Dr. Suttinee Limthammahisorn welcomed the collaboration, describing it as a strategic step toward strengthening scientific and technical networks across Southeast Asia. The event continued with a joint discussion between SEAFDEC delegates and FPIK UNDIP’s academic community, focusing on potential collaborations in various fields, including capture fisheries, aquaculture, marine conservation, and ocean technology.

The SEAFDEC delegation also toured FPIK UNDIP’s flagship facilities, such as the Hatchery, Capture Fisheries Workshop, and other innovation centers that serve as hubs for fisheries and marine research and development. During the visit, guests were introduced to ongoing research programs and projects considered to have significant potential to support the partnership—particularly in aquaculture technology, fish processing, and marine resource conservation.

With the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between FPIK UNDIP and SEAFDEC, both parties aim to foster concrete and sustainable collaboration in advancing science, technology, and innovation in the fisheries and marine sectors. The partnership is expected to bring academic and research benefits to both institutions while delivering tangible impacts to coastal communities and the fisheries sector throughout Southeast Asia.
