UNDIP Brings Research to the People: Five Faculties Host the Largest Food Exhibition in Jawa Tengah at Muladi Dome

UNDIP, Semarang (July 17, 2025) – Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) is strengthening its role as a hub for food security innovation by organizing the AGRIMAT & Jateng Cold Chain Expo (JTCC) 2025, in collaboration with PT Wahana Kemalaniaga Makmur (WAKENI). Held at the Muladi Dome from July 17 to 19, 2025, the event carries the theme “Delivering Advanced Solutions for the Future of Agriculture and Cold Chain in Indonesia.” It is the largest food innovation forum and exhibition in Jawa Tengah.

The event reflects a tangible synergy among academia, industry, and government in addressing challenges to national food security and sovereignty. For the first time, five UNDIP faculties collaborated in a single food innovation ecosystem:

  1. The Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences (FPP) showcased agribusiness products, including eggs, melons, milk, and orchids, as well as training programs.
  2. Faculty of Medicine (FK) presented health services, functional foods, and nutrition consultations.
  3. The Faculty of Science and Mathematics (FSM) has displayed leading research in nanosil, ozone, activated carbon, and essential oils.
  4. The Faculty of Engineering (FT) introduced the latest farming technologies, including greenhouses, dryers, and innovative poultry control systems.
  5. The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) featured the “Makaira” food truck, offering sea coffee, seafood dim sum, and ice cream.

The event was symbolically opened by UNDIP Rector Prof. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., who expressed appreciation for the cross-sector collaboration. “UNDIP is not only an academic institution but also an innovation hub that brings research directly to the public. AGRIMAT & JTCC is a prime example of a penta-helix synergy: university, industry, government, community, and media,” he said.

He also emphasized UNDIP’s commitment to food security and poverty alleviation by forming a dedicated task force shortly after his inauguration in April 2024. “We want our lecturers to be not only academically excellent but also widely impactful to society,” he added.

“UNDIP aims to make a real contribution through the ideas and expertise of its lecturers and professors. We hope this initiative not only benefits communities directly but also inspires other members of the academic community,” he stated.

The rector concluded by reiterating UNDIP’s vision: Noble and Valuable. “Noble” refers to living by noble academic values, and “valuable” is the commitment to being present in society with real solutions.

Sri Boto Rini, S.P., M.P., Head of Food Availability and Stabilization for the Jawa Tengah Provincial Government, attended on behalf of the Governor. In the Governor’s speech, she emphasized the importance of strategic collaboration in addressing national food challenges. “Jawa Tengah is ready to be Indonesia’s center for food technology development. The province’s agricultural sector has been a major contributor to national food supply. We hope this event sparks more tangible collaborations to advance food security and sovereignty,” she said.

In his address, the Governor emphasized that the event serves as a pivotal moment in uniting government, business actors, technology providers, and farming communities under a shared vision. “Jawa Tengah continues to address global challenges and plays a strategic role as a core contributor to the national economy. It stands as a growing center for agriculture, industry, culture, and interfaith harmony,” Rini conveyed the Governor’s message.

In his event report, Prof. Sugiharto, S.Pt., M.Sc., Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences at UNDIP, stated that AGRIMAT 2025 is more than just an exhibition — it represents a strategic moment that showcases UNDIP’s genuine contribution to building national food resilience.

He added that the AGRIMAT and JTCC seminars were results of multi-sector collaboration, bringing cutting-edge topics on post-harvest handling and agricultural technology. Renowned speakers from professional, industry, and academic backgrounds delivered insightful presentations. “Participants will gain in-depth knowledge, hands-on experience, and future trends in agri-tech and post-harvest innovation,” he said.

Throughout the three-day event, visitors can explore various advanced agricultural machines and technologies from multiple companies, including innovations developed by UNDIP. Select featured products are also available for purchase.

Tejo Mulyono, Head of the Cold Chain Division at the Indonesian Logistics Actors Association (PPLI), emphasized the importance of paying serious attention to harvest and post-harvest management to minimize food loss. “Food loss in Indonesia reaches about 30% of total food products, spanning harvest, post-harvest handling, storage, and distribution inefficiencies,” he stressed.

He emphasized that the seminar should serve as a launching point for cross-sector collaboration among academics, food industry professionals, logistics providers, and regulators to develop systemic solutions that reduce food loss. “This joint effort is critical for ensuring food security, particularly in availability and affordability for the public,” he concluded.

This collaborative commitment is reinforced by the involvement of organizations such as UBIKAR and UNDIP’s five strategic faculties (FPP, FT, FPIK, FSM, FK), as well as over 500 participants from diverse sectors. Major industry partners were also present, including PT Cisarua Mountain Dairy, PT Mekari, Terra Drone Indonesia, and key players in logistics, refrigeration, and packaging.

The seminars and workshops were supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, ALSINTANI, Alfa Laval, and the Indonesian Packaging Federation.

This event is open to the public and admission is free. Industry players, academics, students, and the general community can register at www.inagrimat.com.
