Promoting “Noble and Valuable UNDIP,” the University is Named the Accelerated Development Catalyst Campus

UNDIP, Semarang (July 24, 2025) – Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) has once again earned regional recognition with a prestigious award. On Wednesday (July 23, 2025), UNDIP Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., personally received the 2025 detikJateng-Jogja Awards for the Accelerated Development Catalyst Campus. The award was presented by Triono Wahyu Sudibyo, Regional Manager of Detik.com, during a ceremony held at the Gradhika Bhakti Praja Building in Semarang.

The award honors UNDIP’s dedication to supporting regional development efforts, particularly in Jawa Tengah, through technological innovation, applied research, and sustained community engagement programs.

Rector Suharnomo expressed gratitude for the recognition. “We are truly thankful for this appreciation. It turns out that our initiatives under the tagline’ Noble and Valuable UNDIP’ have caught the attention of both the media and the public. From desalination projects and stunting prevention to the construction of the hybrid sea wall, all are part of our commitment to making real contributions to the people of Jawa Tengah,” said Prof. Suharnomo.

He added, “We have quietly carried out our mission of service, never expecting this level of acknowledgment. So when this award was given, we felt deeply appreciated.”

Prof. Suharnomo emphasized that a university’s role must go beyond the classroom. “A campus must be part of the solution to the problems faced by society. That is the moral and social responsibility of educational institutions,” he asserted.

As the second-largest university in Indonesia by student population, UNDIP continues to expand its impact through research and collaboration. Some of the university’s notable innovations include seawater desalination for coastal communities, plastic waste processing, coral reef rehabilitation in Karimunjawa, participation in Jawa Tengah provincial government initiatives, the construction of a hybrid Giant Sea Wall to combat tidal flooding in Demak Regency, and numerous community service programs spearheaded by the university’s academic community across various sectors.

The spirit of “Noble and Valuable UNDIP” has been central to Prof. Suharnomo’s leadership since the beginning of his tenure. The tagline reflects a vision of UNDIP striving for global academic excellence while remaining grounded in local sensitivity and social responsibility. In this spirit, UNDIP also launched poverty alleviation and food security programs in Jawa Tengah as a tangible manifestation of its commitment to being a beneficial institution.

In 2025, “Noble and Valuable UNDIP” initiatives align with and reinforce the national policy direction of Impactful Science and Technology Higher Education (Diktisaintek Berdampak) promoted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. (Public Communication/ UNDIP/ Nurul)
