SEMARANG, Indonesia (August 22, 2025) – Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) held a public lecture on anti-corruption titled “Preventing Corruption to Strengthen Integrity and Anti-Corruption Culture in Higher Education” for new students on Friday, August 22, 2025, at Muladi Dome, Tembalang Campus.
The lecture aimed to educate new students on recognizing, avoiding, and eradicating corruption from an early stage. The keynote speaker was Dr. Fitroh Rohcahyanto, S.H., Deputy Chair of Indonesia’s Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
In his opening remarks, UNDIP Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., said the university is part of the State University Integrity Ecosystem Strengthening Program (Penguatan Integritas Ekosistem Perguruan Tinggi Negeri / PIE PTN). “UNDIP was selected as one of seven state universities to serve as a pilot project and receive KPK assistance in implementing PIE PTN,” he said.
Dr. Fitroh Rohcahyanto, S.H., in his lecture, underscored that while most people understand what corruption means, what is often lacking is personal awareness of anti-corruption values. He emphasized that preventing corruption can start in the classroom, where integrity violations remain common in schools and universities—from cheating to gratuities to non-transparent procurement. “Cheating everywhere is the seed of corruption,” he said.
He warned that if academic spaces lose integrity, the future will lose its foundation. He also encouraged students to study diligently, pursue knowledge, respect their parents, and avoid corrupt behavior. Corruption in Indonesia, he noted, is not new but systemic. “To eradicate corruption, what we need is legal system reform, not merely changing the actors,” Dr. Rohcahyanto said.
He also emphasized that education plays a crucial role in anti-corruption efforts, citing the United Nations Convention Against Corruption, which underscores the importance of raising public awareness about corruption and promoting active participation in its prevention and eradication.
The lecture was lively, with enthusiastic student participation in the Q&A session, where they inquired about KPK’s strategies for combating corruption in Indonesia and monitoring public funds for government programs.
Through this anti-corruption lecture, UNDIP hopes to help prevent potential corruption practices now and in the future. (Public Communication/ UNDIP/ SyahRa & As)
