UNDIP Celebrates National Library Visit Day: Noble Literacy Toward an Inclusive Global Space

SEMARANG, Indonesia (September 14, 2025) – Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), through its Library Unit and UNDIP Press, marked National Library Visit Day with a spirit of collaboration and creativity. The event, themed “Noble and Valuable Literacy Supporting UNDIP as a World-Class University,” took place in the lobby of the university library on Friday, September 12, 2025. The celebration featured a series of activities that not only inspired participants but also reinforced the role of libraries as hubs for literacy, innovation, and social action.

Prof. Dr. Adian Fatchur Rochim, S.T., M.T., Vice Rector III of UNDIP, praised the Library Unit’s achievement of publishing 207 books through UNDIP Press in 2025, with a target of 400 publications in the future. He emphasized that UNDIP will continue to strengthen publication training by leveraging artificial intelligence technology and inviting experienced authors to enrich the writing of textbooks.

Prof. Adian also highlighted the importance of mentoring satellite campuses and branch libraries to ensure their services meet the same standards as the central library. He pointed to plans for accelerated improvements in 2026 so that all faculty libraries adopt the same benchmarks. “Libraries are not just reading rooms, but spaces where new ideas are born,” he said, noting that the facilities now showcase collections of works by UNDIP lecturers and authors as a source of inspiration.

He added that, “UNDIP has established a Librarian Communication Forum, coordinated by the Library Unit and UNDIP Press, to provide support for all faculty and school librarians. This effort has been recognized by the Jawa Tengah Provincial Library, which awarded UNDIP a third-place honorable mention for the first time.”

Prof. Adian also relayed remarks from Hj. Nawal Nur Arafah, M.S.I., who affirmed UNDIP’s standing as the only university in Jawa Tengah with the most significant number of printed and recorded works. The achievement is further strengthened by UNDIP’s fifth-place global ranking from Emerald Publishing, which reflects the strong reading interest among students, faculty, and staff facilitated by the university.

Suwondo, S.Hum., M.Kom., Head of the Library Unit and UNDIP Press, stressed that the Library Visit Day celebration serves as a momentum to advance literacy culture while promoting humanitarian activities in line with UNDIP’s “Noble and Valuable” tagline.

“We hope this event provides a constructive picture for all involved, including partnerships with the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI). This event is a collaboration between the Library UPT and UNDIP Press, KSR, K3L and PMI,” he said. He also announced plans to launch a digital book service as an innovation. “All of this was made possible thanks to the support of the leadership, cross-unit collaboration, and the active participation of the academic community,” he concluded.

The event featured cultural performances, including a Saman dance by students from the Faculty of Humanities, poetry readings by Nadia Islami from the Faculty of Psychology, and creative competitions such as an Instagram POV contest, “What Are You Doing at the Library?” and a “Library Fashion Show.” Winners received special recognition as encouragement to continue innovating.

The occasion also honored contributors, with UNDIP Press presenting published books to authors and recognizing active library users for their frequent visits and borrowing habits. Beyond literacy, the event featured a blood donation drive in collaboration with UNDIP’s Student Red Cross Unit (KSR) and PMI, highlighting social concern and tangible community contributions.

Through the spirit of “Noble and Valuable UNDIP,” and impactful contributions in science and technology to support the Ministry’s program of “Diktisaintek Berdampak.” The 2025 Library Visit Day affirmed the library as the heartbeat of the university—a space of inspiration, collaboration, and service in UNDIP’s pursuit of World-Class University status.
