UNDIP Goes Global: 8 Scholars Ranked Among World’s Top 2% Scientists in 2025

UNDIP, Semarang (September 21, 2025) – Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) has once again earned international recognition in the academic arena. This year, eight UNDIP scientists were listed among the World’s Top 2% Scientists in 2025, a ranking compiled by Stanford University and Elsevier and published on its official website. The number increased from seven UNDIP scholars included last year.

The inclusion of UNDIP’s researchers in this prestigious list reflects the quality of Indonesian research and its growing competitiveness on the global stage. The following are the eight UNDIP scholars ranked in the world’s top 2% in 2025.

Prof. Dr. Ir. Hadiyanto, S.T., M.Sc., IPU (Rank: 42,275)

Faculty of Engineering | Expertise: Bioprocess, Energy

A specialist in environmental technology, Hadiyanto has led numerous studies on water resource management and renewable energy. His work directly contributes to climate change mitigation and the adoption of clean energy in Indonesia. He actively collaborates on international projects focused on sustainable solutions.

Prof. Sugiharto, S.Pt., M.Sc., Ph.D. (Rank: 57,872)

Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences | Expertise: Animal Nutrition, Agricultural Biotechnology

He is known for his research in animal nutrition, particularly in improving livestock productivity and health. His studies play a crucial role in advancing food security and agriculture in Indonesia, with his work widely cited in the development of more effective animal feed.

Prof. Ir. Tutuk Djoko Kusworo, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D. (Rank: 115,946)

Faculty of Engineering | Expertise: Membranes, Gas Separation

An international expert in membrane technology for water treatment, waste management, gas separation, and carbon nanotube production. He also serves as editor for several reputable international journals.

Faculty of Engineering | Expertise: Membranes, Polymers

A professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering and UNDIP’s Vice Rector I, Prof. Heru, specializes in membranes and polymers. He earned his doctorate from the University of Duisburg-Essen (2007), after completing his undergraduate degree at UNDIP (1997) and master’s at ITB (2001).

Prof. Dr. Ir. Andri Cahyo Kumoro, S.T., M.T., IPU, ASEAN Eng. (Rank: 192,761)

Faculty of Engineering | Expertise: Agricultural Product Processing

In addition to food processing technology, Andri conducts research on industrial and urban waste. His works on food processing technology, including those related to fish and coffee, have become global references.

Prof. Dr. Jamari, S.T., M.T., IPU (Rank: 212,233)

Faculty of Engineering | Expertise: Tribology, Engineering Design

A full professor at UNDIP, Jamari earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from ITB (1999 and 2001) and his doctorate from the University of Twente, the Netherlands (2006). His research in bio-tribology has made significant contributions to modern engineering design.

Dr. Eng. Achmad Widodo, S.T., M.T. (Rank: 297,148)

Faculty of Engineering | Expertise: Artificial Intelligence, Machine Fault Diagnosis and Prognosis

An alumnus of UNDIP (1998), he completed his master’s at ITB (2000) and doctorate at Pukyong National University, South Korea (2007). He teaches in UNDIP’s Mechanical Engineering program and conducts research on machine learning systems for fault diagnosis.

Prof. Dr. Athanasius Priharyoto Bayuseno, S.T., M.Sc. (Rank: 321,937)

Faculty of Engineering | Expertise: Material Science, Mechanical Engineering

A new addition to UNDIP’s World Top 2% Scientists, Prof. Athanasius focuses on material science, microstructure, and engineering, contributing significantly to the development and application of materials engineering in industry.

UNDIP Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., expressed his pride at the achievement. “The inclusion of eight UNDIP scientists in the World’s Top 2% is proof that UNDIP research resonates on the global stage. This achievement shows UNDIP is not just competing but also helping shape the direction of global knowledge,” he said.

He added that the accomplishment reflects UNDIP’s strategy in strengthening its research and innovation ecosystem. “We ensure full support, from facilities and international collaboration to researcher capacity building. All of this is aimed at making UNDIP a world-class research university that delivers real benefits to society,” he explained.

About the World’s Top 2% Scientists List by Elsevier

The list is compiled by Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier, using citation data from Scopus. It evaluates more than 100,000 scientists worldwide using a composite indicator (c-score) that combines citation counts, h-index, authorship position (single, first, or last), and the quality of research collaborations.

The ranking includes those within the top 2% in their respective fields. The data is updated annually, reflecting both the latest research impact and overall career achievements.

With its rigorous methodology, the Stanford–Elsevier list is considered one of the most prestigious benchmarks in academia. The inclusion of eight UNDIP scientists not only signifies international recognition but also highlights their contributions to advancing global knowledge and addressing societal needs.
