SEMARANG, Indonesia (September 19, 2025) – Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) of Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) held its regular study session at the Multipurpose Hall of the Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences on Friday, September 19, 2025. The event, titled “Women in the Qur’an: Between Role Models and Inspiration,” featured Ustadzah Angelina Sondakh as the speaker.
The Qur’an gives special attention to the role of women in human life, portraying them in various capacities—as mothers, educators, leaders, and exemplars of steadfast faith.
In her opening remarks, Chair of DWP UNDIP, Dewi Widayani, S.H., M.Pd., said, “The presence of Ustadzah Angelina Sondakh is not only as a preacher but also as a living example that faith and perseverance can overcome any trial. May this activity strengthen our bonds of sisterhood, inspire us to deepen our study of the Qur’an, and guide us to become women who are not only recognized in this world but also beloved by Allah SWT.”
Angelina Sondakh, a former politician who embraced Islam in 2009, has since devoted herself to preaching. She chose to wear the hijab and has memorized 15 juz of the Qur’an.
On this occasion, she was accompanied by Ustadz Hardi Abdullah Shogir. In her speech, Ustadzah Angelina Sondakh emphasized the importance of making the Qur’an a faithful companion and life guide.
“Titles, wealth, and power are only temporary. Ultimately, what we carry forward are our acts of worship and closeness to the Qur’an. During my hardest times, I found peace through the Qur’an, which helped me memorize 15 juz,” said the preacher, affectionately known as Ustadzah Enji.
She also reminded attendees to practice sincerity, avoid envy and grudges, and place hope only in Allah SWT. “Disappointment arises when we put our hopes in people. Letting go, sincerity, and gratitude are the keys to a healthy heart,” she added.
In addition to her sermon, Sondakh introduced her “Safari dakwah” program, aimed at uniting Muslims across Indonesia, as well as the One Million Qur’an Memorizers movement and scholarship opportunities for youth to continue their studies at Al-Azhar University in Cairo.
Meanwhile, Ustadz Hardi Abdullah Shogir highlighted the importance of the Qur’an in guiding Muslim women through life’s challenges. “Today’s activity carries an important message about how the Qur’an guides the life of a Muslim woman amidst various challenges. We hope that Ustadzah Angelina Sondakh’s life experiences can serve as a real inspiration, especially for women, to draw closer to the Qur’an,” he said.
The event concluded with a collective prayer, with hopes that the session would strengthen fellowship, nurture the spirit of preaching, and inspire women to hold firmly to the Qur’an in their daily lives. (Public Communication/ UNDIP/ Viny ed. Ut)
