UNDIP, Jambi (September 17, 2025) – In line with its tagline “Noble and Valuable UNDIP,” Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) reaffirmed its commitment to nation-building by actively participating in the Patriot Expedition Program initiated by the Ministry of Transmigration. The program serves as a strategic step to strengthen transmigration areas, focusing not only on population distribution but also on accelerating regional development based on local potential. UNDIP plays a role as an academic partner, combining scientific approaches with community service to formulate applicable, targeted, and sustainable recommendations.
One of the expedition’s focal points is Kumpeh Subdistrict in Muaro Jambi Regency, Jambi Province. The area is being developed into a new center of economic growth, with an emphasis on improving the quality of life for transmigrant communities and managing natural resources sustainably—aligned with the SDGs pillars of poverty alleviation, food security, and rural development.
As an initial step, the UNDIP Patriot Expedition Team held a meeting with Muaro Jambi Regent Dr. Bambang Bayu Suseno and Regional Secretary H. Budhi Hartono. The local government welcomed the collaboration and expressed full support for Kumpeh’s development in partnership with UNDIP.
Kumpeh’s leading commodity is the Duku Kumpeh, a local Jambi fruit variety known for its sweetness. However, the commodity is facing a serious threat from stem cancer disease caused by fungi, which has killed many trees and drastically reduced production. Gradually, the duku is being replaced by other crops.
Still, Kumpeh’s agricultural potential remains strong. In Maju Jaya Village, a former transmigration settlement, residents have successfully cultivated chili. On September 15, 2025, the community held a harvest festival, symbolizing a new spirit of productive land use. UNDIP provided input to encourage more sustainable agricultural development.
UNDIP also participated in the planning process of the Kumpeh Subdistrict Budget (APBDes), helping ensure that every development plan aligns with community needs and sustainability principles. Careful planning is a key factor in building resilient, independent, and competitive transmigration areas.
UNDIP’s presence in the Patriot Expedition demonstrates the tangible contribution of higher education institutions to national development while supporting the achievement of the SDGs at the local level—driving change from the villages for a better Indonesia.
The university’s involvement in the Patriot Expedition also reflects UNDIP’s “Noble and Valuable” mission, aligned with the Ministry’s “Diktisaintek Berdampak” program. (Public Communication/ UNDIP/ UNDIP’s Patriot Expedition Team)
