UNDIP, Jepara (October 3, 2025) – Horison Hotel Antawirya Resort in Jepara Regency was officially inaugurated in a ceremony attended by the Rector of Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), the Chair of the Academic Senate, the Secretary of the Board of Trustees, the Head of BP UBIKAR (Agency for Business, Commercial, and Risk Analysis Management), and other guests. The inauguration took place at the UNDIP Jepara campus on Friday, October 3, 2025.
The presence of Horison Hotel Antawirya Resort Jepara is expected to become a new destination that provides comfort while supporting research development—particularly in fisheries and marine studies—and promoting sustainable coastal area development.
The inauguration was marked by the signing of an inscription by UNDIP Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., accompanied by the Chair of the Academic Senate and the Secretary of the Board of Trustees. With 45 rooms equipped with complete facilities, including a swimming pool and pavilion, Horison Hotel Antawirya Resort Jepara is ready to serve as both a family vacation destination and an attraction for local and international researchers. It also presents opportunities for business development and collaboration.
In his remarks, UNDIP Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., stated that the Horison Hotel Antawirya Resort Jepara is the second hotel developed by UNDIP, following the Horison Inn Antawirya located on the UNDIP Tembalang campus. The Jepara hotel stands on a 52-hectare area within the UNDIP Jepara campus.
Prof. Suharnomo explained that the campus’s Directorate of Science and Techno Park (DSTP) has developed numerous research and cultivation programs, including the production of high-value vannamei shrimp exported to Japan and Singapore, as well as the cultivation of saline rice and saline tilapia. “No other campus has successfully exported aquaculture products,” the Rector noted.
He expressed hope that the presence of Hotel Horison Resort Antawirya Jepara—with its excellent facilities—would create a captive market by attracting both local and international researchers to stay during their research activities, while also generating economic benefits for the surrounding communities.
Refino Mutshernar, Vice President of Operations at PT Metropolitan Golden Management, expressed his pride in being entrusted to manage a hotel built by UNDIP, particularly Horison Resort Antawirya, which holds strong business potential. Its strategic coastal location makes it a prime destination for maritime tourism.
The Marine Science and Techno Park (MSTP) already provides several facilities and services, including a post-harvest fishery product mini-plant, a material and food testing laboratory, vannamei shrimp cultivation areas, mangrove conservation zones, and marine education and underwater observation equipment—offering promising opportunities for future development.
The collaboration between UNDIP and PT Metropolitan Golden Management in managing Horison Hotel Antawirya Resort Jepara is expected to boost local economic growth and create employment opportunities for the community, supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth.
The benefits brought to coastal communities through UNDIP’s presence, research, and innovation also align with the Ministry of Higher Education’s Diktisaintek Berdampak (Impactful Science and Technology) program. (Public Communication/UNDIP/Ut & Evan)
