Inspiration from UNDIP’s Economic Student Named “Z” Who Graduated with a Cum Laude Predicate

UNDIP, Semarang (November 13, 2025) – For some people, a name is merely an identity. But for Z, a single-letter name carries more than that—it is a prayer filled with meaning. Through that name, Z’s parents hoped he would grow into someone unforgettable yet straightforward. That prayer seemed to be answered when his name was called during the 180th Graduation Ceremony of Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) at the Muladi Dome Multipurpose Building, as a Bachelor of Economics graduate from the Faculty of Economics and Business with a cum laude distinction (GPA 3.58).

Z’s academic journey at UNDIP spanned four years, one month, and seventeen days, a period filled with challenges, adaptation, and learning. Accepted through the 2021 SBMPTN selection pathway, he began his studies during the COVID-19 pandemic, which required all activities to be conducted online. “That period was not easy. I struggled to understand the materials and to build relationships with new friends,” he recalled. However, when the campus reopened for in-person learning, Z gradually found his rhythm. He adapted, improved his academic performance, and embraced a renewed spirit for learning.

His unique name turned out to be an advantage. “Because my name is just one letter, lecturers and friends remember it easily,” he said. One moment he vividly remembers happened during online classes. “There was a lecturer who still remembered me in the second semester, even though he had only taught me in the first. During every meeting, he would greet me, so I felt a bit anxious whenever he might suddenly call my name,” he shared.

Throughout his studies, Z was known for his discipline and sense of responsibility. Amid his academic workload, he also contributed to compiling research data for lecturers, reflecting his active involvement in educational development. Despite a busy campus life, he consistently strived to balance his obligations with personal well-being. “When I had lots of assignments, I would choose to finish them even if it meant staying up late. But when I felt burned out, I recharged by spending time with family or close friends,” he said.

For Z, being a UNDIP student is not only about pursuing grades but also about shaping character—learning to be resilient, honest, and full of integrity. “Alhamdulillah, being able to grow at UNDIP is an extraordinary privilege,” he expressed with gratitude. Now, after officially earning his bachelor’s degree, he is preparing to enter the professional world while continuing to assist with lecturers’ research. Z hopes to apply what he has learned throughout his studies in his future career and eventually pursue higher education.

Concluding his story, Z shared a message for active UNDIP students to stay focused on their own journeys and avoid comparing themselves to others. “Hi, Dips! Keep your spirits up. Everyone has their own path, and God will surely grant results according to our efforts,” he said with optimism.

Z proves that simplicity is not a barrier to achievement. In line with the spirit of “Noble and Valuable UNDIP”, his journey serves as an inspiration that perseverance and humility will always lead to success. (Public Communication/UNDIP/ Nabila & DHW)
