UNDIP Strengthens Efforts for Transmigration Transformation On-Site Through Patriot Expedition Team in Review in Sulawesi Tengah

UNDIP, Sulawesi Tengah (November 24, 2025) – The Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) team conducted a field visit to two locations of the UNDIP Patriot Expedition Team in Sulawesi Tengah, namely in Sigi Regency (Palolo) and Donggala Regency (Lalundu and Bambakaenu) from November 12–14, 2025. The visit was attended by the Head of the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) UNDIP, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ir. Suherman, S.T., M.T.; the Person in Charge (PIC) of the UNDIP Patriot Transmigration Program, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wiwandari Handayani, S.T., M.T., M.PS.; and a representative from the Patriot Output Review Team, Dr. Yudi Basuki, S.T., M.T.

The Patriot Expedition is part of the Patriot Transmigration Program – Indonesian Ministry of Transmigration, in which UNDIP has deployed 57 teams to 57 transmigration areas across Indonesia. Each team consists of one team leader and four members. The Patriot Expedition teams conduct research and community engagement activities based on local potential while living directly in the area for approximately 3–4 months. Through this collaboration, the “Patriot” concept is expected to drive Transmigration by generating innovative ideas for more productive, inclusive, and sustainable regional development.

This field visit aimed to directly observe the implementation of the Patriot Expedition activities through discussions with the team, government stakeholders, and local communities to understand both technical and non-technical conditions in the field; conduct site observations related to infrastructure conditions and community dynamics; and ensure the continuity and safety of the teams during their assignment.

On the first day, the UNDIP team, accompanied by Universitas Tadulako as the local partner, met with the Sulawesi Tengah Provincial Office of Manpower and Transmigration before conducting a field visit to the Lembantongoa Transmigration Settlement Unit in Lembantongoa Village, Palolo District, Sigi Regency. On the second day, the agenda continued with a visit to the proposed transmigration area in Pinembani District, Donggala Regency, and the presentation of the Donggala Patriot Expedition team’s observation results. On the third day, the UNDIP team visited Universitas Tadulako, UNDIP’s local partner in implementing the Patriot Expedition in Sulawesi Tengah. The series of visits concluded with a field observation to UPT Bulupountu Jaya in Oloboju Village, Sigi Kota District, including a visit to a local Small–Medium Industry (Industri Kecil Menengah / IKM) producing Sigi’s signature fried shallots.

This activity is expected to strengthen on-site understanding while ensuring that the implementation of the Patriot Expedition Program produces high-quality outputs and encourages continuity and long-term impact in transmigration areas. Moving forward, through strengthened collaboration between local governments, sending universities, regional universities, and local communities, the program aims to provide sustainable benefits for transmigration area development and local economic empowerment.

This commitment also supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 9 (Infrastructure and Innovation), and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), through tangible contributions to improving community welfare and regional development in Sulawesi Tengah. This involvement reflects UNDIP’s strategic step to expand regional collaboration while strengthening multidisciplinary academic contributions toward sustainable transmigration area development.
