Transforming Global Justice through Criminal Psychology: From Correctional Systems to Rehabilitation

UNDIP, Semarang (November 14, 2025) – The Faculty of Psychology at Universitas Diponegoro held a series of internationalization activities under the International Teaching Fellowship Program, themed “Global Justice Through Psychological Insight: Advancing SDG 16 Via International Teaching Fellowship 2025 in Criminal Psychology.” The event invited Dr. Mohd Norbayusri Baharudin from the Department of Social Administration and Justice, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Universiti Malaya, Malaysia, on October 21–25, 2025.

The series of events began on October 21, 2025. In Series 1, the speaker—popularly known as Dr. Baiyu—delivered a session discussing the correctional system. This session was followed by Series 2, which explained how correctional rehabilitation can be advanced through education, skills training, and restorative justice. In his interactive presentations, Dr. Baiyu consistently included videos related to each topic, giving students clearer insights into the issues discussed.

Next, in Series 3, the speaker presented material on psychosocial interventions in juvenile justice and the rehabilitation options available to youth. Series 4 covered cross-cultural correctional psychology and ways to adapt psychological interventions within multicultural environments. Series 5 delivered material on therapy and community-based care models for maintaining mental health within correctional institutions. The program also continued with discussions and the finalization of the Criminal Psychology course module, as well as collaborative research with the PIC for the activity, Dr. phil. Dian Veronika Sakti Kaloeti, S.Psi., M.Psi.

Beyond academic discussions, the speaker also visited Kedungpane Class I Correctional Institution and Bulu Class IIA Women’s Correctional Institution. Together with students, Dr. Baiyu discussed correctional systems and rehabilitation programs with correctional officers at both facilities.

Overall, the activity was attended by undergraduate Psychology students, master’s students in Psychology, undergraduate Nursing students, and residents of the Forensic Medicine and Medicolegal Study Program. It is hoped that this program will enhance Universitas Diponegoro’s competitiveness globally by expanding academic collaborations and strengthening its international reputation.
