K.H. Taj Yasin Maimoen Invites Students from SMK and MTs Al-Anwar Sarang to Get to Know UNDIP

UNDIP, Semarang (December 10, 2025) – The Deputy Governor of Central Java, K.H. Taj Yasin Maimoen, met with the Rector of UNDIP on Wednesday, December 10, 2025. However, on this occasion, he was not present in his capacity as Deputy Governor, but as the Caretaker of Al-Anwar Islamic Boarding School, Sarang, Rembang, accompanying students from SMK and MTs Al-Anwar Sarang in the Campus Visit Program. K.H. Taj Yasin escorted the students to gain insight into pursuing higher education, which many of them plan to enter next year.

Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), through the Institute for Educational Development and Quality Assurance (LP2MP), welcomed students from SMK and MTs Al-Anwar Sarang on a visit to the UNDIP Tembalang campus in Semarang City. The delegation was received at the UNDIP ICT Building by Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., and Vice Rector for Academic Affairs and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr.rer.nat. Heru Susanto, S.T., M.M., M.T. Also present were the Caretaker of Al-Anwar Islamic Boarding School Sarang, K.H. Taj Yasin Maimoen, Head of SMK Al-Anwar Sarang Mas’ad, S.Ag., and Head of MTs Al-Anwar Sarang M. Miftahul Albab. A total of 162 students, 23 teachers, and staff participated in the campus visit.

This visit is UNDIP’s implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education by providing education to students at SMK and MTs Al-Anwar Sarang through the Campus Visit Program. Direct exposure to the university environment helps shape students’ intellectual abilities. It inspires their determination as they prepare for the next stage—whether in higher education or the professional and industrial world (DUDI). The theme of the activity was “Fostering Academic Spirit and Global Insight Toward a Smart, Competent, and Competitive Generation.”

Rector UNDIP, Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., warmly welcomed the Caretaker of Al-Anwar Islamic Boarding School and the student and teacher delegation. He explained that UNDIP regularly receives visits from schools at all educational levels—from early childhood to high school. He emphasized that the presence of SMK and MTs students aligns strongly with UNDIP’s Vocational School programs, especially for SMK students in automotive, electrical, networking, and computer studies.

“You have several choices after graduation—continue to university or work directly. At UNDIP, there are programs aimed at poverty alleviation for new students, including a 22% quota for recipients of the KIP-K scholarship. We also offer scholarships for children of fishermen to pursue studies at the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science. In addition, UNDIP provides admission pathways for outstanding students, such as the Hafidz Al-Qur’an program requiring memorization of at least 20 juz,” explained Prof. Suharnomo.

He continued, “UNDIP also has a campus in Rembang, offering undergraduate programs in Public Administration and a Diploma in Management. We will soon open an undergraduate program in Informatics at PSDKU Rembang, focusing on IT and e-government. UNDIP also collaborates with local governments in education development.” At the end of his remarks, he advised, “Focus on future-oriented fields such as business, IT, renewable energy, food and science technology. So keep up your spirit, and make your life more meaningful.”

As the Caretaker of Al-Anwar Islamic Boarding School, K.H. Taj Yasin chose UNDIP as a reference campus because of its beneficial innovations for society. “UNDIP has contributed a lot. The most well-known is the desalination machine that converts brackish and seawater into potable water—we already have several units in Central Java. This machine helps solve water problems in Rembang. There are also stunting reduction programs and the development of cold storage facilities to support farmers and fishermen,” he said.

Addressing the students, he added,

“Pay close attention to the material delivered by UNDIP. We want you to be more courageous. To achieve strong knowledge, you must be able to improve welfare and bring benefits to others.”

The event continued with a Q&A session featuring the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr.rer.nat. Heru Susanto, S.T., M.M., M.T. He explained UNDIP’s academic profile, flagship programs, study programs, and facilities.

“There are many considerations when starting university studies. UNDIP is geographically close to residents of Central Java—this is important. Besides the main campus in Semarang, there is also the PSDKU Rembang campus. At the main campus, free public transportation is provided, such as campus buses, electric shuttles (buggy cars), and bicycles, so you don’t need to worry about not having a private vehicle,” he said.

He encouraged the students to begin planning early if they want to enter university after graduation, ensuring their aspirations align with their interests and abilities.

The students’ enthusiasm was evident from the many questions asked about UNDIP. Responding to a question about flagship study programs, Prof. Heru explained:

“Each faculty has its own scientific characteristics and career paths, regardless of changing public trends regarding popular programs. My advice is to stay adaptive to change and improve your skills—especially English, which is now essential.”

At the end of the discussion, Prof. Heru advised SMK and MTs Al-Anwar Sarang students to work hard and remain consistent in their studies, while praying. The agenda then continued with visits to the Faculty of Science and Mathematics (FSM) and the Vocational School (SV). It is hoped that this Campus Visit Program will serve as a platform that spreads positive energy for young people, helping them confidently choose their next steps in education and career, in line with the tagline “Noble and Valuable UNDIP.” (Public Communication/UNDIP/Titis)
