UNDIP, Ngambur (September 26) – Team 1 of the Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) Patriot Expedition arrived in Pesisir Barat Regency, Lampung Province. The assignment will run through December 12, 2025, with the primary mission of conducting research and mapping economic potential in transmigration areas. The objective is to establish a systemic foundation for the area through diagnostic studies, collaborative governance, and the development of community corporation models based on local potential.
Ngambur Sub-district was selected as the study location because it remains a transmigration area with considerable untapped potential. Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) indicate that leading commodities include oil palm, coconut, and rice, as well as cattle farming. These potentials serve as an initial basis for examining how transmigration areas can evolve into new centers of economic growth.
The area evaluation conducted by Team 1 went beyond simply inventorying challenges; it also highlighted strategic opportunities within local dynamics. The assessment included mapping local actors, community strengths, natural resource conditions, and access to basic services. All information was analyzed thematically and spatially, producing practical recommendations that support data-driven decision-making.
A distinctive feature of Team 1’s approach is the integration of a social-ecological framework with principles of collective economic development. Beyond commodities and infrastructure, the team considered social relations, local values, and institutional readiness. Consequently, the evaluation results are not only technically relevant but also socially acceptable.
During the initial phase, the team formulated three main targets: comprehensive mapping of social, economic, ecological, and institutional conditions; identification of development challenges and opportunities; and preparation of strategic recommendation documents for area development. These documents will serve as key references for the next stage—developing collaborative governance and designing community corporations.
The Pesisir Barat Regency Government welcomed this initiative. Through relevant agencies, including the Transmigration Office, local authorities emphasized the importance of research outcomes as a foundation for formulating development directions. According to officials, Ngambur’s transmigration areas have the potential to develop more rapidly when supported by accurate data and strategies based on local strengths.
Team 1 also strives to maintain close communication with the community. The team’s presence is expected to deliver dual benefits: producing academic recommendations while opening space for dialogue with residents. In this way, communities are not merely objects of study but also key actors in the development process.
Through this Patriot Expedition, UNDIP Team 1 hopes that the evaluation of transmigration areas in Ngambur will strengthen Pesisir Barat’s position as a resilient, competitive, and well-managed region. Furthermore, this activity is expected to support national programs in establishing new centers of economic growth in transmigration areas. Conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Transmigration, this initiative embodies the spirit of ‘Noble and Valuable UNDIP’ and aligns with the Diktisaintek Berdampak program.
