UNDIP’s 5th Volunteer Team Provides Psychosocial Assistance to Acehnese Children Who Are Flood Disaster Survivors

UNDIP, Aceh (20/1) – Entering the second day of deployment, the UNDIP D-DART Disaster Response Team, namely Team 5, immediately carried out assistance activities for disaster survivors in Sekumur Village, Sekerak Subdistrict, Aceh, focusing on psychosocial support for children and a mobile mini library program.

The activity involved approximately 60 children, including storytelling, group singing, interactive games, spiritual therapy, and services from a mobile mini library.

The Coordinator of Team 5, Ns. Nur Hafizhah Widyaningtyas, S.Kep., M.Kep., reported that the activities ran smoothly. “In addition to assistance, the team also distributed various logistics, including snacks, books and religious learning media, children’s and baby necessities, as well as school uniforms,” said Nur Hafizhah.

Based on discussions with local health officers, it was noted that medicines—especially eye medications and topical skin treatments—are still urgently needed.

In providing assistance and aid, the UNDIP D-DART Disaster Response Team faced several challenges, including limited access to the location, with a travel time of approximately 3 hours, and potentially worsening weather conditions. However, these obstacles did not dampen the team’s spirit as they carried out their humanitarian mission. To date, residents’ basic needs such as clean water and electricity remain top priorities.

UNDIP Team 5 is scheduled to serve from January 19–24, 2026, in Aceh Tamiang and the Universitas Syiah Kuala area. The team will work in synergy with other UNDIP teams already deployed, particularly in providing clean water and disaster nutrition services to high-risk community groups, such as toddlers and pregnant women.
