UNDIP and PT SMI Cooperation Implement Quality Education and Sustainable Economic Development

UNDIP, Semarang (24/2) – Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) and PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (Persero) (PT SMI) officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as a joint commitment to strengthen strategic collaboration in education, research, community service, and national infrastructure development.

The MoU was signed by the Rector of Universitas Diponegoro, Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., and the President Director of PT SMI, Reynaldi Hermansjah, at UNDIP Tembalang Campus, Semarang, Central Java, on Tuesday, February 24, 2026. This agreement serves as an initial framework for both parties to build synergy to improve educational quality and development and promote sustainable economic growth.

The scope of cooperation outlined in the MoU includes:

  1. Collaboration to improve the quality of national infrastructure development, particularly in analyzing technical aspects of infrastructure sectors and other aspects related to infrastructure project financing.
  2. Cooperation in providing expert services, including:
    a. reviewing technical aspects and sectoral analyses across various national infrastructure development sectors and other relevant aspects related to financing and activities;
    b. conducting sharing sessions and capacity-building programs in various national infrastructure sectors and related areas;
    c. preparing sectoral outlooks for various national infrastructure development sectors.
  3. Cooperation in education and training, including:
    a. providing opportunities for PT SMI employees to pursue postgraduate education programs, namely Master’s (S2) and Doctoral (S3) programs, in accordance with applicable academic regulations and requirements;
    b. providing opportunities for UNDIP students to participate in internships and research programs based on needs, placement capacity, and applicable procedures.

In his remarks, UNDIP Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., stated that this collaboration aligns with UNDIP’s commitment as a public university to deliver education that is noble and valuable to society. According to him, collaboration with PT SMI offers the academic community strategic opportunities to engage directly in national development.

“UNDIP has significant human resources and academic potential. Through this cooperation, we hope that synergy between the academic world and professional practice will be further strengthened, so that the university is not only strong in theory but also relevant and impactful for sustainable development,” the Rector said.

He added that cross-sector collaboration is key to addressing various development challenges. By combining UNDIP’s academic expertise and PT SMI’s practical experience, the partnership is expected to generate innovation, applied research, and tangible contributions to society and the nation.

Meanwhile, PT SMI President Director Reynaldi Hermansjah emphasized that the signing of the MoU represents a strategic step in strengthening PT SMI’s role as a Development Finance Institution that focuses not only on financing but also on capacity building and knowledge development.

“Synergy with universities such as Universitas Diponegoro is an important foundation for promoting sustainable, inclusive national infrastructure development based on good governance. Through this collaboration, we aim to integrate financing functions with academic studies, capacity enhancement, and sectoral solution development,” he stated.

He also explained that the collaboration includes support for technical and sectoral analysis, provision of expert personnel, capacity-building activities, joint research, opportunities for employee further education, as well as internships and research opportunities for UNDIP students. According to him, this long-term partnership is expected to produce highly competitive and high-quality human resources. The agreement is expected to serve as a strong and sustainable foundation for synergy between Universitas Diponegoro and PT SMI in advancing national development. Through structured and results-oriented cooperation, both institutions aim to enhance their respective capacities and expertise, expand learning and practical opportunities for students, and provide concrete solutions to development challenges. Ultimately, this synergy is expected to deliver broad and lasting benefits to society while strengthening the strategic roles of higher education institutions and development financing institutions in creating added value for the nation.
