UNDIP, Semarang (2/3) – Every year, the Campus Mosque of Universitas Diponegoro (Maskam UNDIP) regularly organizes various activities such as pre-iftar religious lectures and Tarawih prayers to enliven the holy month of Ramadan. This year’s Ramadan program features several national figures, including Prof. Dr. Arif Satria, S.P., M.Si., Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), who delivered a religious sermon(tausiyah) at Maskam UNDIP.
The event was held on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at Maskam UNDIP after the Tarawih prayer. Also present were the Rector of UNDIP, the Maskam UNDIP Takmir Board, and other Tarawih congregations, predominantly UNDIP students.
In his remarks, UNDIP Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., expressed his pleasure and gratitude for the presence of the Head of BRIN, who was willing to deliver the Ramadan sermon at Maskam UNDIP. Prof. Suharnomo also shared that he had worked under Prof. Arif Satria at the Indonesian Association of Muslim Intellectuals (ICMI) and had served as ICMI Central Java’s Secretary.
“I was once one of his subordinates in ICMI. At that time, I was invited by the Vice Rector IV when I was still the Chair of the UNDIP Student Senate, and I served four times as Secretary of ICMI in Central Java,” said Prof. Suharnomo.
Furthermore, Prof. Suharnomo encouraged the audience to be good role models and to contribute to the nation, in line with the university’s tagline ‘Noble and Valuable UNDIP.’ “Hopefully, we can all express our religious values in the best possible way by becoming good role models and contributing to the Indonesian nation,” he added.
Prof. Arif Satria expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to deliver a sermon at UNDIP. Carrying the theme “Ramadan, Science, and Innovation: Cultivating Integrity and Public Benefit,” he encouraged individuals to embody the spirit of Ulil Albab, integrating remembrance of God (dzikir) and critical thinking to become a generation that is both excellent and of strong character.
“Through remembrance (dzikir), we remain humble when we succeed and do not lose heart when we fail in innovation. Whatever happens is the will of Allah SWT, and we must believe that nothing on this earth is created in vain,” said Prof. Arif Satria.
“Humans are created with intellect so they can think rationally, logically, and objectively about the creation of the universe and the phenomena of life. At the same time, humans can use their intellect to innovate and develop technologies that bring benefit and welfare to humanity,” concluded Prof. Arif Satria. (Public Communication/UNDIP/AKS ed.
