UNDIP Tarawih Safari 1447 H: Ramadan as a Moment of Self-Reflection to Face Contemporary Challenges

UNDIP, Semarang (4/3) – On Tuesday, March 3, 2026, the Faculty of Engineering, together with the Postgraduate School and the Vice Rector III of Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), held a Tarawih Safari and gathering(silaturahim) for the entire UNDIP academic community. The event took place at the Engineering Hall, Prof. Ir. Eko Budihardjo, M.Sc. Building, 5th floor.

This activity is part of UNDIP’s effort to strengthen bonds of fellowship and enhance the spiritual devotion of its academic community during the holy month of Ramadan 1447 H. On this occasion, UNDIP invited Prof. Akhmad Syakir Kurnia, S.E., M.Si., Ph.D., from the Faculty of Economics and Business, as the keynote speaker.

The Vice Rector for Human Resources, Information Technology, Law, and Organization, Prof. Dr. Adian Fatchur Rochim, S.T., M.T., welcomed the implementation of the Tarawih Safari. According to him, this agenda offers the academic community an opportunity to engage in self-reflection and strengthen relationships to achieve UNDIP’s aspirations.

“This Tarawih Safari is not merely a routine Ramadan activity, but also a momentum to strengthen bonds, unite hearts, and reflect on our roles as part of the UNDIP family in building a university that is excellent, noble, and valuable,” he explained. Prof. Adian also expressed hope that all parties would work together to support UNDIP’s vision and mission. “May this togetherness foster stronger synergy in supporting the university’s vision and mission,” he added.

Professor of the Faculty of Economics and Business, UNDIP, Prof. Akhmad Syakir Kurnia, S.E., M.Si., Ph.D., had the opportunity to be a speaker in this Tarawih Safari.

In his sermon, Prof. Akhmad Syakir Kurnia, S.E., M.Si., Ph.D. emphasized the importance of self-improvement during Ramadan. He highlighted the need to reinterpret fasting in today’s context to make it more meaningful.

“Previously, fasting may have been understood as shaumul awam—the fasting of ordinary people, limited to refraining from things that break the fast, such as eating and drinking. However, Imam Al-Ghazali introduced a stricter standard, namely shaumul khusus, the fasting of those who are spiritually prepared,” he explained.

He noted that the challenges people face today are more complex due to the overwhelming flood of unfiltered information in the modern era. Therefore, he encouraged the congregation to use Ramadan as a moment to prepare themselves for contemporary challenges.

“Perhaps one of our greatest challenges in observing the fast today lies in the era of transparent information, where all kinds of content enter our private spaces. That is precisely where the real test lies,” Prof. Akhmad Syakir concluded.

The Tarawih Safari event concluded with the distribution of souvenirs and continued fellowship among members of the academic community. Through this activity, the Faculty of Engineering invited all elements within UNDIP to synergize and improve themselves in order to realize a university that is noble and valuable.
