Trans7 Mengajar: Sharpening UNDIP Students’ Leadership in the Creative Industry

UNDIP, Semarang (16/4) – Trans7 Mengajar Volume IX was held at Universitas Diponegoro, taking place at the 5th Floor ICT Building, UNDIP Tembalang Campus, on Thursday, April 16, 2026, from 08:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Carrying the theme “Creativity and Leadership,” Trans7 collaborated with Garuda Food to offer insights on creativity and leadership to UNDIP students.

The event was attended by the Rector of UNDIP and his leadership team, the Vice President of HR & GS at Trans7, the Managing Director of SNS Distribution Company of Garuda Food, and UNDIP students who enthusiastically participated. Students were eager to learn from Trans7 and Garuda Food, major players in the creative industry and the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector.

UNDIP Rector, Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., expressed his hope that students would gain valuable insights into creativity and leadership for their future. “You will learn from speakers from Trans7 and Garuda Food about how creativity and leadership work,” he said.

He also quoted Donald McGannon’s statement in front of the students:

“Leadership is action, not position. You do not need to wait to hold a formal position to take real action,” Prof. Suharnomo added.

Prof. Dr.nat.tech. Siswo Sumardiono, S.T., M.T., Director of Academic Affairs at UNDIP, expressed appreciation to Trans7 and Garuda Food for their collaboration, which made the event possible. “We are grateful that the Trans7 Mengajar program has been successfully carried out,” he stated.

He also highlighted that the younger generation, known as Gen Z, is digitally literate, resilient, and creative, and has the potential to become strong leaders in the future.

“The notion that Gen Z is weak is not accurate. In fact, they are more capable than previous generations. Hopefully, they will become strong and noble leaders,” he added.

The event featured presentations from speakers representing Trans7 and Garuda Food, moderated by Hanifa Maylasari, S.I.P., M.Sos., ensuring an interactive and engaging session.

The first session was delivered by Ruli Setiawan Sl. Tobing, Managing Director of SNS Distribution Company of Garuda Food, with the topic “Lead With Action: Adaptive and Resilient Leadership in Real Industry.” He explained that Garuda Food, a major FMCG company known for products such as Chocolatos, Gerry, and Kacang Garuda, continuously adapts to changing times. “Change is inevitable, even if not immediate. Therefore, leadership must be adaptive and resilient to face future challenges,” Ruli said.

Ruli also emphasized that leadership is built on trust. “Leadership is also about trust—trust from the team, partners, and consumers,” he added.

The next session was presented by Antonius Refijanto, Vice President of HR & GS at Trans7, who discussed the creative industry in the digital era. He explained that Trans7 has transitioned from conventional television to digital platforms. “In today’s digital era, especially among Gen Z, fewer people watch traditional TV. Therefore, Trans7 has transformed digitally through the Seven Hub application, allowing audiences to access our content anytime and anywhere, including via smartphones through streaming,” he explained.

Through this activity, UNDIP students are expected to gain broader insights, enhance their creativity, and strengthen their leadership skills in the creative industry and FMCG sector. (Public Communication/UNDIP/AKS ed. As3)
