UNDIP, Malang (24/4) – Students of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Diponegoro again made achievements at the national level through the Nusantara Writing Festival 5 (NWF 5) held in Malang, East Java on April 18-19, 2026. The team of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Diponegoro won the Silver Medal and the Favorite Poster award through innovation titled SAWIT (Sustainable Aroma-Based Wellness Innovation for Transportation).
The team consisting of Naufa Nufail, Abdullah Azzam, Ainnaya Alifia Putri, and Lavirda Pricilvia raised an innovative solution in the form of an eco-enzyme-based helmet cleaner from orange peel waste of the Makan Bergizi Gratis (MBG) Program. This innovation not only serves to maintain the cleanliness of the helmet, but also utilizes olfactory stimulus to increase the alertness of online motorcycle taxis drivers while driving.

Team representative, Naufa Nufail, explained that the idea emerged from the high risk of traffic accidents for motorcyclists, especially online motorcycle taxis, which are influenced by fatigue and distraction factors.
“Helmets that are used for up to a dozen hours can become damp and trigger unpleasant odors that have the potential to reduce focus. Through SAWIT, we integrate health and environmental aspects to create applicable solutions,” he told the UNDIP Faculty of Medicine team on Monday April 27, 2026.
He added that compounds such as limonene and menthol in SAWIT formulations can provide a stimulus effect on the nervous system that plays a role in increasing attention and alertness.
The excellence of this innovation is seen in the novelty of the idea that combines health, transportation safety, and waste utilization issues. Not only in the form of concepts, the team also presents product prototypes as proof of feasibility of implementation.
“We want to show that this innovation does not stop at ideas, but has the potential to be applied realistically in society,” Naufa added.
This success cannot be separated from the support of the supervisor, Prof. Dr. Diana Nur Afifah, S.TP., M.Sc. and dr. Fanti Saktini, M.Si.Med., Sp.KJ, AHK(K), as well as the role of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Diponegoro in building a supportive academic ecosystem. Through evidence-based approaches, networking facilities, and cross-field collaboration, students are encouraged to develop innovations that are not only scientific, but also plays as a sustainable solution.
“The Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Diponegoro, has been very supportive of us from the idea development step to the implementation. We are facilitated to establish cooperation with partners so that this innovation can be tested in real terms,” said Naufa.
He also expressed his pride in being able to carry the name of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Diponegoro in cross-disciplinary competitions. In the future, the team targets further development through scientific validation and downstreaming of products to the community, especially the online motorcycle taxi community in Semarang.
This achievement also confirms the commitment of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Diponegoro in producing students who not only excel academically, but are also able to bring impactful innovations to the community. (Public Communication/ FK/ ed. Nurul)
