UNDIP’s Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences Holds National Symposium to Strengthen Food Safety Systems and Fisheries Product Quality

UNDIP, Semarang (6/5) – The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) of Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) organized a National Symposium on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at the FPIK UNDIP Auditorium, Tembalang Campus, Semarang. Carrying the theme “The Role of Higher Education Institutions in Maintaining Food Safety, Quality, and Supply Chain Stability,” the event served as a cross-sector discussion forum that brought together experts from various national institutions.

The symposium, designed in the form of a Focus Group Discussion (FGD), featured two keynote speakers: the Head of the Indonesian Quarantine Agency, Abdul Kadir Karding, S.Pi., M.Si., and the Deputy for Systems and Governance of the National Nutrition Agency, Dr. Ir. Tigor Pangaribuan. Their presence underscored the importance of collaboration among academia, government, and related institutions to ensure national food quality and safety.

Academics and practitioners provided critical insights and constructive recommendations on strengthening food safety systems, improving the quality of fisheries products, and the importance of inter-institutional synergy in maintaining national supply chain stability. Through this activity, FPIK UNDIP reaffirmed its commitment to contributing to solutions for strategic national issues through academic and collaborative approaches, while also supporting research- and science-based national policies, particularly in fisheries and marine affairs.

The discussion session featured several expert speakers. Dr. Ir. Woro Nur Endang, M.P., Secretary of the Marine and Fisheries Product Quality Control Agency (BPPMHKP) under the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, presented on quality standards for marine products. Prof. Dr. Ir. Eko Nurchaya D., M.Sc., an academic from FPIK UNDIP, discussed the nutritional value of fisheries commodities. In contrast, Yoga Pratama, S.TP., M.Sc., Ph.D., from the Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences (FPP) UNDIP, discussed agricultural and livestock commodities.

From the perspectives of security and distribution, Kombes Pol Dr. Noviana Tursanurohmad, S.I.K., M.Si., Head of Human Resources of the Central Java Regional Police, explained distribution strategies to ensure the quality of food delivery. Letkol Inf. Guvta Alugoro Koedoes, Deputy Assistant for Territorial Affairs of Kodam IV/Diponegoro, highlighted the Indonesian National Armed Forces’ role in supporting food security. At the same time, Titik Mustikasari, S.Pi., CWM, President Director of PT Perikanan Indonesia, provided a technical overview of fisheries commodity supply chains.

This national symposium is expected to serve as a platform for synergy among academics, government institutions, and industry to formulate concrete solutions to create a safe, high-quality, and sustainable food system. The event also involved various cross-sector stakeholders as part of strategic collaboration to support national priority programs, particularly those related to the provision of safe, sustainable and nutritious food.

The symposium was attended by experts from the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), the Central Java Regional Police, Kodam IV/Diponegoro, PT Perikanan Indonesia and academics from FPIK and FPP UNDIP. (Public Communication/FPIK)
