UNDIP, Semarang (28/5) – The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences of Universitas Diponegoro (FPIK UNDIP) continues to show its commitment in preparing graduates who are excellent, competitive, and ready to compete globally. Since 2023, FPIK UNDIP students have had the opportunity to participate in international internship programs around various fisheries and marine industries spread across a number of regions in Japan.
This program is one of the real steps of FPIK UNDIP in connecting the education world with the demand of global industries, especially in the fisheries, aquaculture, and modern marine sectors. Through the program, students not only gain international work experience, but also broaden their cultural horizons, improve foreign language skills, and hone professional skills in a global work environment.
On April 19th, 2026, FPIK UNDIP sent anew 28 students to participate in the internship program in Japan. A total of 13 students were placed in Ako City, while 15 other students underwent a program in the Esashi region. In addition, there are 11 students from the Fisheries Product Technology Study Program who are scheduled to soon leave for Esashi.
This internship program covers various fisheries and marine industry sectors, ranging from fish farming, seafood processing, hatchery, to management of modern aquaculture facilities. The students get hands-on experience working with Japanese companies and industrial partners who already have international standards.
Not only opening internship opportunities for active students, FPIK UNDIP also facilitating the opportunity to work abroad for its alumni. Currently, a total of 9 alumni are participating in a training program and work preparation for placement in an aquaculture company from South Korea through the E-7-3 Visa scheme.
The E-7-3 Visa Program is a special work visa for skilled foreign workers in certain sectors, including fish farming and aquaculture. Through this program, FPIK UNDIP alumni are prepared to work professionally in South Korean aquaculture companies with the support of language training, technical competence, and international work culture briefing.
Before entering the training and departure stage, the participants are required to follow a strict selection series, including a complete Medical Check Up (MCU) and psychological tests to ensure physical and mental readiness in facing the international working world.
Dean of FPIK UNDIP, Prof. Agus Trianto, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., said that this internationalization program is part of the campus’s efforts to improve the quality of graduates to become excellent human resources in the fisheries and marine sectors.
“FPIK UNDIP not only focuses on academic education, but also ensures that students and alumni have access to global experiences and real international career opportunities. This is a form of our commitment in producing graduates who are adaptive, professional, and ready to face challenges of the global working world,” he said.
