UNDIP, Semarang (7/7) – Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) has once again demonstrated its commitment to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through active participation in the Global Sustainable Development Congress (GSDC) 2026 which was held on June 22nd–25th, 2026 at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE), Tangerang, Jakarta, by Times Higher Education (THE).
The GSDC Congress 2026 features nearly 700 speakers across keynote sessions and panel sessions, making it one of the largest international forums bringing together experts, academics, industry leaders, and policymakers in the field of sustainable development.
This international congress organized by THE is a collaborative forum connecting the academic, government, industry, and social worlds to develop cross-sectoral strategies and solutions that can be implemented to accelerate climate action and achieve global climate targets, and encourage sustainable development transformation.
During the four-day event, the UNDIP delegation actively participated in various strategic agendas, including the Plenary Keynotes, Asia-Pacific Sustainable Business Summit, Sustainability Skills Summit, Trade and Economic Development Summit, Unlocking Capital for Sustainability, Well-being Zone, DataLabs, and SDGs Showcase.
These various sessions provided a platform for knowledge exchange, strengthening international networks, and exploring best practices in global sustainability governance. UNDIP’s active participation reflects the university’s commitment to strengthening international collaboration, enhancing institutional capacity, and making tangible contributions to sustainable development.
The UNDIP delegation, namely Dessy Ariyanti, S.T., M.T., Ph.D. (Deputy Director of Global Reputation), Pulung Widhi Hari Hananto, S.H., M.H., LL.M. (Deputy Director of Global Partnership and Connectivity) and Prof. Bulan Prabawani, S.Sos., M.M., Ph.D. (Chair of the SDGs Center) intensively participated in various discussion sessions during the congress.
“We attended seven to ten sessions per day, gaining comprehensive insights into various strategic issues, ranging from higher education transformation, strengthening sustainable governance, digital innovation, sustainable development financing, data utilization for decision-making, and improving community welfare,” said Dessy Ariyanti.
One of the important contributions of UNDIP’s participation was Dr. Dessy Ariyanti’s presentation as an invited speaker at one of the panel sessions on June 24th, 2026, where she shared Universitas Diponegoro’s experiences and best practices as a research university in research and innovation of biodiversity conservation efforts. Her presentation demonstrated UNDIP’s growing international recognition and contribution to the global discussion on sustainable conservation and higher education transformation. Furthermore, the UNDIP delegation also had an in-depth discussion about the upcoming THE rankings with representatives from Times Higher Education (THE). (Public Communication/UNDIP/ed. Nurul)
