UNDIP and Central Java OJK Strengthen Collaboration to Enhance Financial Literacy, Research, and Consumer Protection

UNDIP, Semarang (3/8) – Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) and the Central Java Provincial Financial Services Authority (OJK) have officially established a partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the implementation of the Three Pillars of Higher Education (Tridharma Perguruan Tinggi), financial services sector development, enhancement of financial literacy and inclusion, and consumer and public protection in the financial services sector. The MoU was signed by UNDIP Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., and Head of the Central Java Provincial OJK, Hidayat Prabowo, S.E., M.Akt., at the Rector’s Meeting Room, Widya Puraya Building, UNDIP Tembalang Campus, on Monday, August 3, 2026.

The MoU serves as the foundation for cooperation between UNDIP and OJK in education, research, and community service. The scope of the partnership includes improving financial literacy and inclusion, including Islamic financial literacy and inclusion, developing human resource competencies, exchanging data and information, supporting regional economic development, and other areas of cooperation mutually agreed upon by both parties.

In his remarks, Prof. Suharnomo said that the partnership with OJK would open up broader opportunities for academic collaboration while strengthening the capacities of students and lecturers through various academic programs to be jointly developed with OJK.

“We see many things that we can do together, including human resources, doctoral education, research, and financial literacy. We see that OJK has experience and expertise that can be shared through public lectures and other academic activities, because it is important for us to broaden our knowledge of the financial services sector,” he said.

Meanwhile, Head of the Central Java Provincial OJK, Hidayat Prabowo, said that higher education institutions are strategic partners in improving public financial literacy. He emphasized that education must continue to be strengthened because people from various backgrounds, including those with higher education, remain vulnerable to financial fraud.

“I believe our areas of cooperation will not be limited to the scope outlined in this MoU. There will be many opportunities that can be developed, whether in research, financial services sector development, enhancing education and literacy, or protecting the public,” Hidayat Prabowo said.

Hidayat also encouraged the UNDIP academic community to play an active role in expanding financial literacy through education, research, community service, and other collaborative programs that provide direct benefits to the public.

The event continued with a discussion moderated by UNDIP Director of Innovation and Cooperation, drh. Dian Wahyu Harjanti, Ph.D. The discussion explored various opportunities to implement the partnership, including strengthening the Thematic Community Service Program (KKN Tematik), providing financial education for new students, fostering research collaboration, advancing regional economic development, and supporting academic and community service activities.

OJK also expressed its appreciation for the previous implementation of the Thematic Community Service Program in collaboration with UNDIP, which was considered to have had a positive impact on improving financial literacy among local communities. In the future, OJK hopes the collaboration can be expanded through various activities involving students, lecturers, and the broader academic community so that the benefits of financial education can reach more people.

The partnership is expected to serve as the starting point for developing various collaborative programs between UNDIP and the Central Java Provincial OJK, ranging from education, research, and community service to efforts to improve financial literacy, providing tangible benefits for both the academic community and the wider public.
