Campus League Badminton Season 1 Regional Semarang 2026 Successfully Held at Polytron Stadium UNDIP

UNDIP, Semarang (30/8) – The Badminton Campus League (BCL) Season 1 Regional Semarang officially concluded on Saturday, August 29, 2026, following four days of competition at Polytron Stadium, Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP). As the host of the opening series of the inter-university badminton competition, UNDIP views the Campus League as a platform for students to develop their interests and achievements beyond academic activities.

UNDIP Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr.rer.nat. Ir. Heru Susanto, S.T., M.M., M.T., said that inter-university competitions, such as the Campus League, are important for providing students with opportunities to develop their potential in sports.

“Activities like this are very important and productive. Students have considerable time outside their academic activities, and initiatives like this can provide them with opportunities to engage in productive activities,” said Prof. Heru.

Prof. Heru further emphasized that sporting achievements and education should not be viewed as two choices that require students to sacrifice one for the other. Universities need to develop approaches that allow students to pursue their education successfully while continuing to develop their athletic achievements.

“To become an athlete, students should not have to sacrifice their academic pursuits. On the one hand, they can attend their classes properly, while on the other, their sporting activities should not be disrupted. If the two can be balanced, it would certainly be better,” he explained.

This perspective aligns with the Campus League’s objective of providing a competitive platform for badminton talent at the university level. Campus League CEO Ryan Gozali said the competition is expected to provide athletes with an opportunity to continue developing their athletic abilities while pursuing higher education. “We want Campus League to become a platform where athletes can continue competing while also having the opportunity to pursue their academic goals,” he said.

In its inaugural season, BCL Regional Semarang featured 149 student-athletes from 17 universities representing various cities, including Semarang, Yogyakarta, Surakarta, Surabaya, Purwokerto, and Makassar. The competition featured women’s singles, men’s singles, women’s doubles, men’s doubles, mixed doubles, 3v3, and team events.

At the end of the competition, Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) won the women’s singles and team events. Universitas Jenderal Soedirman (Unsoed) took first place in the men’s singles, while Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) won the women’s doubles, men’s doubles, and mixed doubles events. In the 3v3 category, Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) emerged as champion.

As the host university, UNDIP welcomed the continuation of similar activities as part of efforts to provide students with opportunities to develop their achievements through sports and other non-academic activities.

“If activities like this can continue to be held every year, universities will certainly prepare their students as well as possible. We are very open to and supportive of activities that provide students with productive opportunities outside their academic studies,” Prof. Heru concluded. (Public Communication/UNDIP/Hng)
