UNDIP, Semarang (21/8) – Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) has partnered with Natureline, a small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) specializing in aromatherapy and body fragrances, to develop the POSTBIO-FUSE body lotion spray, a cosmetic product formulated with active compounds derived from mangrove and sediment symbionts through marine biotechnology exploration. The product is the result of research conducted by a consortium of three universities: UNDIP, Universitas Riau (UNRI), and Universitas Maritim Raja Ali Haji (UMRAH).
In his remarks, UNDIP Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, a concrete manifestation of the university’s efforts to accelerate research commercialization, one of its key targets. He noted that although UNDIP has produced thousands of simple patents, only a limited number of research outcomes have successfully been transformed into market-ready products. This remains a challenge that must be addressed.
“There are already many research outcomes, but only around 10% have successfully reached the commercialization stage. UNDIP’s innovations must be widely distributed and actually reach the market. We need to continue our efforts to ensure that research findings do not remain confined to the laboratory,” said Prof. Suharnomo.
Natureline owner Arini Khoiriyah welcomed the collaboration as an effort to combine academics’ research expertise with industry players’ practical experience. “We have very limited research capacity, while UNDIP has a wealth of resources. Through this collaboration, UNDIP contributes its research expertise, while we support production and marketing. We hope this product can soon reach a wider market,” said Arini.
One of UNDIP’s researchers, Prof. Dr. Ir. Delianis Pringgenies, M.Sc., highlighted the scientific advantages and significant potential of POSTBIO-FUSE. “This product utilizes selected marine and mangrove symbiotic bacteria that have been proven to exhibit antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and anti-aging activities. These indigenous Indonesian bacteria have been featured in Q1 scientific publications and have subsequently been formulated into a gentle spray lotion made entirely from natural ingredients,” explained Prof. Delianis.
POSTBIO-FUSE is an innovative cosmetic product developed through marine biotechnology exploration. The product utilizes active compounds derived from symbiotic microorganisms associated with mangroves and marine sediments and has undergone comprehensive in vitro and in vivo testing. Its key advantages include:

- Ready for Commercialization: As the outcome of a large-scale research collaboration, the product is designed to meet industry standards and obtain a distribution permit from the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM), with production managed by industry partner Natureline.
To formalize the collaboration, Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Natureline to strengthen the commercialization of research outcomes from higher education. The agreement was signed on Friday (21/8) by UNDIP Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., and Natureline owner Arini Khoiriyah at the Rector’s Office, Widya Puraya Building, UNDIP Tembalang Campus. The initiative marks a strategic step toward advancing marine biotechnology-based cosmetic innovation in Indonesia.
The collaboration between UNDIP and Natureline is expected not only to produce cosmetic products that benefit society but also to serve as a successful model for the sustainable commercialization of research in Indonesian higher education. It also represents a concrete contribution to achieving SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) through technological innovation and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through cross-sectoral collaboration between academia and industry.
