UNDIP Wins Six Awards at the 2026 Indonesian Ship Contest

UNDIP, Bengkalis (20/9) – The Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) delegation delivered an impressive performance at the 2026 Indonesian Ship Contest (Kontes Kapal Indonesia / KKI), securing six awards. UNDIP dominated the Design Innovation category, winning first place in both subcategories: Design and Construction Innovation (Inovasi Desain dan Konstruksi / IDK) through Ekalawya 1 and Machinery and Electrical Systems Innovation (Inovasi Sistem Permesinan dan Kelistrikan / ISPK) through Ekalawya 2. The achievement was complemented by Lembuswana Team 1, which won first place in the Electric Remote Control (ERC) category.

In addition to the three first-place titles, Ekalawya 2 won Best Poster at ISPK, while Lembuswana Team 1 won Best Poster at ERC and won the ERC Fun Race. The achievements demonstrate the UNDIP delegation’s capabilities in ship design, prototype development, and the presentation of scientific work.

KKI 2026 was held from September 14–17, 2026, at Politeknik Negeri Bengkalis, with the prototype competitions taking place at the Bengkalis City PDAM Reservoir. Organized by the Directorate of Learning and Student Affairs under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, the competition carried the theme “Garda Maritim Nusantara: Innovative Coast Guard Ship Technology that is Resilient, Responsive, and Self-Reliant for National Sovereignty.”

In the IDK category, Ekalawya 1 developed a design for a coast guard ship for KN Pulau Sekatung-324 to support patrol, surveillance, and maritime security operations in Indonesian waters. One of its key innovations is the Self-Energized Smart Adaptive Hull Antifouling System (SESAHAS), an intelligent antifouling system designed to detect biofouling at an early stage and provide adaptive electrochemical treatment, powered independently by a triboelectric nanogenerator and solar panels. The innovation earned Ekalawya 1 first place in the IDK category.

In the ISPK category, Ekalawya 2 developed a coast guard ship design for KN Senoa to support patrol operations in the North Natuna Sea. Its main innovation, Intelligent Navigational Decision-Making, is an intelligent navigation system that integrates route planning, vessel heading control, and the determination of safe zones between vessels to support the safety and efficiency of patrol operations. Through its innovation and presentation of the concept, Ekalawya 2 won first place in ISPK and Best Poster in ISPK.

Meanwhile, in the ERC category, Lembuswana Team 1 developed a remotely controlled electric ship prototype integrating hull design, an electric propulsion system, and vessel control technology. The team won first place in ERC, Best Poster in ERC, and the ERC Fun Race. The achievements demonstrate the team’s ability to develop and operate a prototype on the competition course while effectively communicating its design concept and development outcomes through a scientific poster.

UNDIP Contingent Leader Ilham Jaya Candra said the achievement was a significant milestone, although the team had not reached its initial target of winning the overall championship.

“From the outset, we came with a bigger target of making UNDIP the overall champion of KKI 2026. This year, we had to settle for second place overall. We have shown that UNDIP is capable of competing and achieving strong results in both the design and prototype categories,” Ilham said.

He added that the results would serve as an evaluation and further motivate the UNDIP team to continue innovating in preparation for next year’s KKI.

“We hope that after KKI 2026, this achievement will not stop at being a victory, but will serve as motivation to continue developing innovations and improving the quality of research teams at Universitas Diponegoro,” he said.

The first-place finishes by Ekalawya 1 and Ekalawya 2 in both Design Innovation subcategories demonstrate UNDIP students’ capabilities in developing ship designs and technologies. Together with Lembuswana Team 1’s achievements in the ERC category, the results reflect the collaborative efforts of students, faculty advisors, and supporting teams in developing maritime innovations relevant to Indonesia’s needs.

Universitas Diponegoro extends its appreciation to all students, faculty advisors, support teams, and other parties who supported the delegation throughout the design, testing, and final stages of KKI 2026. The achievements are expected to encourage UNDIP students to continue producing applicable and competitive maritime innovations while contributing to greater technological self-reliance and Indonesia’s maritime sovereignty, in line with UNDIP’s commitment to being noble and valuable. (Public Communication/UNDIP)
