As per 2018, Diponegoro University (Undip) will run program of empowering productive migrants. By the program partnered with Ministry of Labour, Undip will dispacth students joined in Community Service Program to Migrant Workers’ places of origins. It is said in signing patnership between Ministry of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia and Undip at Hall of Academics Senate-The Boards of Trustee, on Friday (April 20, 2018). Vice Rector of Communication and Business Budi Setiyono explained that students will offer education on legal working and legal migration, so prospective migrant workers know of right procedures to work abroad.
“Students will also educate on financial management and entrepreneur development by migrant workers after they back home,” Budi said.
Beside of that, the program will also involve development of community parenting, so family of migrant workers can not be abandoned. They can work together for solving problems.
This program is important because there are various problems faced by migrant workers, especially while they have been working abroad.
In the first year, 2018, the program will be focused on Central Java and East Java. And in the following years, the program will also be targeted at other provinces out of Java, particularly in eastern Indonesia.
Undip Rector Prof.Yos Johan Utama hoped the partnership with Ministry of Manpower is able to offer mutual benefits for the both parties.
Minister of Manpower M Hanif Dhakiri, in Presidential Lecture themed “Strategy of Indonesian Human Resources Management Facing Era of Industry 4.0 Disruption” asked Undip, as one of the best university in Indonesia, must be able to anticipate rapidly progression of technologies in Industry 4.0. Curriculum and educational methods have also to adapt with business and industry climate which is more competitive and increasingly keep pace with progression of technology and information.
Hanif said that changes in the 4th industrial revolution have also been influencing to nature of jobs, so the needed skills will be changed.
“Challenges we are faced with is how to prepare and to make mapping on workforce of graduated in facing witn the 4th Industrial Revolution,” Hanif said.
