The Communication and Business Bureau (BKB) of Diponegoro University (UNDIP) introduced the new look of the UNDIP website at the “Launching of Diponegoro University Website” event held in the Prof. Sudarto, S.H. Building, UNDIP Tembalang Campus on Friday (17/5).
The initiative to improve the quality of facilities and services at Diponegoro University aims to meet measurable standards in line with UNDIP’s aspiration to become a World-Class University.
“Physically, we have made various efforts, improvements in facilities, and infrastructure development. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, we have improved information technology services both in management and in academic activities. Almost all aspects of university management, including human resources, finance, academics, and student affairs, are now supported by various applications within the SSO. Additionally, other aspects, such as student services, have been upgraded to meet World-Class University standards,” explained Prof. Budi Setiyono, S.Sos., M.Pol.Admin., Ph.D., Vice Rector for Communication and Business, in his opening remarks.
Prof. Budi mentioned that despite these efforts, the website needed more attention. The current UNDIP website still needs to be able to reflect UNDIP as a World Class University. “The website should serve as a window for outsiders to understand the internal aspects of UNDIP, such as its faculties, study programs, their contents, and information. For example, parents who want their children to study at UNDIP in a particular program need to know the costs, graduation rates, what is taught, and job prospects. From a review conducted last year, the UNDIP website has not yet been able to satisfy the public’s curiosity,” added Prof. Budi.
The website should serve as a window providing resources for the public, not only to know what UNDIP offers but also to create curiosity about daily issues faced by the public.
As a higher education institution in a country, a university should be able to provide answers to public curiosity. UNDIP, as an educational institution mandated with education and research, should be able to answer public questions, and this information should be made available on the UNDIP website.
Therefore, the Communication and Business Bureau’s IT and Public Relations teams are republishing the UNDIP website to ensure it performs optimally, supports public curiosity, is interactive, and meets the criteria for rankings by various institutions.
Attention is primarily focused on Webometrics rankings, which are not based on the website itself but on how accessible the university’s output is to the public. The more frequently the public downloads research results, the higher the Webometrics ranking.
The website is also expected to benchmark against several top 100 universities worldwide, including those in the United States, Australia, and specifically in Asia from Singapore. Several aspects of design, layout, and content on the UNDIP website have been optimized to match the performance and portfolios of renowned universities worldwide,” concluded Prof. Budi.
