UNDIP Holds Patent Drafting Camp 2024

Semarang – In an effort to increase the number of patent applications, Diponegoro University, through the Directorate of Innovation and Industrial Cooperation in collaboration with the Bureau of Innovation and Cooperation, successfully held the “Patent Drafting Camp 2024” at Noormans Hotel, Jl. Teuku Umar No.27, Jatingaleh, Gajahmungkur District, Semarang City, Central Java 50232, on August 13-14, 2024. This event aimed to perfect the drafting of patent descriptions, which were guided by experts from the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI) according to their fields.

The event featured speakers from the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI), consisting of Senior Patent Examiners up to Chief Patent Examiners, in accordance with the inventions’ fields. The speakers ensured that each description produced met the set standards and was ready to be registered through DJKI.

The event was opened by the Director of Innovation and Industrial Cooperation at Diponegoro University, drh. Dian Wahyu Harjanti, Ph.D. In her opening remarks, drh. Dian emphasized the importance of intellectual property protection, especially for the inventions resulting from the research conducted by the academic community at Diponegoro University. She highlighted that patents are not only a legal protection tool but also an instrument to drive economic progress from upstream to downstream, leading to commercialization within the industry.

Following this, a representative from DJKI, Dra. Johani Siregar Apt. M.H. delivered the second speech. In her remarks, Dra. Johani expressed her appreciation for the initiative to hold the Patent Drafting Camp. She stressed the importance of a deep understanding of both legal and technical aspects in patent drafting so that all features of an invention can be protected. She also affirmed that DJKI is ready to provide full support through direct assistance during the event.

Over two full days, participants received intensive guidance on drafting comprehensive and accurate patent descriptions. The results of this event were very encouraging, with 56 patent drafts ready for registration. These outputs are expected to significantly contribute to enhancing the Key Performance Indicators of the Strategic Plan and Legal Entity State Universities (PTNBH), namely the number of patents owned by Diponegoro University, while also supporting the services of the Technology Transfer Office.

Patent Drafting Camp 2024 is tangible evidence of Diponegoro University’s commitment to supporting researchers and academics in securing their intellectual property rights and making a positive impact on the development of science and technology in Indonesia.
