BANYUROJO (16/08/2024) – Aulia Rizky Puspitasari, a student from the Diponegoro University (UNDIP) Community Service Program (KKN) Team II, organized a library management revitalization program. As a Library Science student, she contributes to making educational modules and booklets titled “Library Transformation through Revitalization” at the library of SDN Banyurojo 02 alongside Mr. Anjar, the head of the library. This program was held on August 2 and 5, 2024, with the goal of improving the management and operation of the library to make it more effective and appealing to both students and teachers.
This activity’s background is the need to enhance the function and attractiveness of the school library, which often needs to be better managed. The library at SDN Banyurojo 02 has great potential to become an engaging learning center but requires better management and renewal.
The UNDIP Community Service students took the initiative to help revitalize the library by providing education on proper library management and revitalization methods, following modern library procedures and best practices.
The program began with a survey and assessment of the library and its management at SDN Banyurojo 02 on July 22, 2024. The Community Service students identified the library’s condition, including layout, collection labeling, classification, cataloging, and circulation management. On August 2, 2024, they helped reorganize the library’s collection and clean the library. On August 5, 2024, they provided further education on what revitalization entails, its benefits, and the necessary steps to improve library management and operations. This education covered the importance of updating collection labels to align with relevant categories, making it easier for students and teachers to find books.
Additionally, the students offered guidance on optimizing the library by rearranging its space to attract visitors and updating the collection through partnerships, book donations, or school contributions.
They also presented Mr. Ambar with a booklet and module titled “Library Transformation through Revitalization,” which contains comprehensive guidelines on good library management and revitalization steps.
Mr. Ambar and the Principal, Mrs. Dewi, expressed that this program significantly contributed to improving the library management at SDN Banyurojo 02. They hope that these improvements will make the library more appealing and functional for students and teachers. This program not only benefits the library at SDN Banyurojo 02 directly but also serves as an example for other schools to improve their library management.
Through this program, UNDIP Community Service students have helped educate and revitalize the library management at SDN Banyurojo 02, ensuring that the library functions better as an engaging and effective learning and knowledge resource.
This effort is part of a larger initiative to empower school libraries in the Banyurojo region and even across Indonesia so that they can continue to grow and provide more significant benefits to the school community. (Aulia)
