UNDIP Community Service Students Conduct a Training of to Sucang Making as a Special Souvenir from Jatibatur, Sragen Regency

The Community Service (Kuliah Kerja Nyata / KKN) Team II students from Diponegoro University for the 2023/2024 academic year have carried out their work programs in their respective areas. One of the multidisciplinary programs conducted by UNDIP Community Service students, led by Wulandari Putri and her team, was a training session on making Sucang (susu kacang), a peanut-based milk beverage as a special souvenir of Jatibatur Village, Gemolong Sub-District, Sragen Regency.

“This work program aims to increase the selling value of peanuts, which are one of the largest agricultural products in Jatibatur village, and to empower the community through peanut milk entrepreneurship, which can also be a special souvenir to bring progress to Jatibatur village through MSMEs,” explained Wulandari.

She mentioned that this activity, which involved demonstrations and hands-on practice by the Community Service students, was attended by members of the Family Welfare Empowerment group (PKK) in Jatibatur village as well as the village officials. The Community Service students explained the potential of peanuts in the town, their benefits, and how to process them.

“The activity continued with the practice of making peanut-based milk, where the Community Service students asked for three volunteers from the audience, namely PKK members, to actively participate under the guidance of the Community Service student team in the peanut-based milk-making process. This event took place at the Jatibatur Village Hall and was attended by 22 PKK members (Thursday, 8/8),” said Wulandari.

The PKK leader, who is also the village head’s wife, along with other PKK members, expressed their appreciation to the UNDIP Community Service student team for their initiative, creativity, and efforts in providing education and training to the PKK members. This effort was seen as very beneficial in empowering the Jatibatur village community and utilizing its resource potential, especially in processing peanuts. The peanut-based milk made by the PKK members was immediately consumed.

The participating PKK members shared their feedback on the peanut-based milk. “When making the peanut-based milk earlier, I used 1 sachet of sweetened condensed milk, and the taste was just right,” said the village head’s wife, who is also the PKK leader and actively participated in the training. “The peanut-based milk tastes good and is just the right sweetness,” added Kiki, a PKK member. “It tastes good when warm, but if served cold, it needs more sugar according to taste,” commented Ika, a PKK member and village cadre.

“The UNDIP KKN Team II work program is expected to have a positive and sustainable impact on the community, especially in Jatibatur village, so they can enhance MSMEs by utilizing existing natural resources and making them a hallmark of Jatibatur Village,” Wulandari hoped.
