UNDIP, Semarang (July 28, 2025) – Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) once again sent off the nation’s best and brightest by holding the 179th Graduation Ceremony through an Open Senate Session at the Muladi Dome, Tembalang Campus, from July 28 to August 1, 2025. A total of 5,378 graduates were officially inaugurated in a solemn and proud atmosphere, underscoring UNDIP’s success as a higher education institution continuously producing outstanding and dedicated graduates.
The ceremony was officially opened by UNDIP Academic Senate Chairman Prof. Ir. Edy Rianto, M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU., who expressed his appreciation to the graduates and their families. “We are proud that UNDIP currently ranks among the top in Indonesia for graduate employability. Several of our study programs have also been ranked among the World’s Top 500. This achievement is solid proof that UNDIP continues to progress toward becoming a world-class university,” he said. Prof. Edy also reminded the graduates to be humble agents of change and uphold UNDIP’s good representation wherever they go.
UNDIP Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., in his address, delivered uplifting news. “Last week, UNDIP was awarded as an ‘Accelerated Development Catalyst Campus’ at the detikJateng-Jogja Awards 2025, a national recognition from one of Indonesia’s largest media outlets. Alhamdulillah, the media have widely highlighted UNDIP’s achievements,” he said, drawing applause from the audience.
With enthusiasm, the Rector emphasized the importance of embodying UNDIP’s values of ‘Noble and Valuable’ in society. “Noble means maintaining your honor as UNDIP graduates. Valuable means that the best individuals or institutions are those that provide the most benefit,” he said. He urged the graduates not to become ‘ivory towers’ but instead to be part of the solution to the problems around them.
In his reflection, Prof. Suharnomo cited research from the World Economic Forum on “The Most Important Job Skills in 2025,” which surveyed more than 13 million respondents. He noted that analytical thinking; resilience; flexibility and agility; leadership and social influence; creative thinking; motivation and self-awareness; and technological literacy; are among the most needed skills in 2025.
“This shows that human qualities are becoming increasingly important, including empathy and active listening; curiosity and lifelong learning; talent management; and service orientation and customer service. Only after that comes technology like AI and big data. Technology is indeed important, but ultimately, it is people who determine success,” he explained.
UNDIP Rector concluded his speech with two powerful reminders: “Don’t be lazy – your networking is your currency. And don’t be overly sensitive – get used to being strong, not just smart.”
In his report, Vice Rector for Academics and Student Affairs Prof. Dr.rer.nat. Heru Susanto, S.T., M.M., M.T., detailed that the 179th Graduation Ceremony included 77 Doctoral graduates, 562 Master’s graduates, 85 Specialist Doctors, 225 Professionals, 3,766 Bachelor’s graduates, 453 Applied Bachelor’s (D4) graduates, and 210 Diploma graduates. No fewer than 3,572 graduates earned cum laude honors, accounting for 66.42% of all graduates. Additionally, 599 graduates were recipients of the Bidikmisi scholarship, including two foreign nationals.
In closing, Prof. Heru wished the graduates continued success in their careers. They encouraged them to be role models in society, striving for success in this life and achieving happiness in the hereafter.
Through the 179th Graduation Ceremony, Universitas Diponegoro reaffirmed its commitment to producing intellectuals of integrity, adaptable to changing times, and ready to make tangible contributions to society in various fields, while carrying the spirit of Prince Diponegoro with dedication. They are not just graduates but also agents of change ready to create a better future. UNDIP continues to progress toward becoming a world-class university. (Public Communication/ UNDIP/ DHW)
