UNDIP Provides Free Health Services for Residents of Pangenjurutengah, Purworejo

UNDIP, Purworejo (September 28, 2025) – Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) continues to strengthen its role in bringing knowledge that benefits the wider community. Through its Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM), UNDIP organized a community service program offering free medical check-ups and treatment to residents of Pangenjurutengah Village, Purworejo District, Purworejo Regency, on Saturday, September 27, 2025.

The UNDIP team was warmly welcomed by approximately 250 residents who gathered at Al-Khoifin Mosque, the venue for the program. Full support from Sawunggalih Aji Polytechnic (Polsa) Kutoarjo, the Purworejo Regency Government, and the mosque management added to the warmth of the atmosphere. Many families came together to take advantage of the opportunity, which provided access to health services they previously struggled to obtain regularly.

From early morning, residents participated in various health services provided, including blood pressure checks, simple laboratory tests for cholesterol, blood sugar, and uric acid levels, as well as direct consultations with specialist doctors. Mass circumcision services and free medications were also available. All services were delivered by medical professionals and students involved in the community service program, ensuring tangible benefits for the village.

Prof. Dr. Achmad Zulfa Juniarto, M.Si.Med., Sp.And (K)., M.M.R., Ph.D., Vice Chair of LPPM UNDIP for Community Service, opened the event and gave remarks. He emphasized that this activity reflects UNDIP’s commitment to expanding equitable access to health care. “We spread it out, from the coastal areas of Jepara, the mountains of Dieng, and now Purworejo. All of this is to ensure the broader community truly feels the benefits,” he said.

Prof. Zulfa not only delivered remarks but also personally performed circumcisions on three local children, demonstrating UNDIP academics’ direct involvement in community service. He added that the program’s target was 250–300 residents, with coupons distributed even before the event had run out. “Alhamdulillah, the community’s response was overwhelming. We hope those who are healthy remain healthy, and those who are ill recover soon,” he said.

The community service event also became a moment of collaboration between higher education institutions and local government. Supriyono, S.E., M.Si., Ak., C.FA, Director of Polsa, expressed appreciation for the partnership. “We are grateful to celebrate Polsa’s 24th anniversary with such a meaningful event together with UNDIP. This event is concrete proof that higher education can be directly present within the community,” he said.

Support also came from the Purworejo Regency Government. Representing the Deputy Regent, Sigit Supriyanto, S.E., M.M., Head of General Affairs and Personnel Subdivision at the Education and Culture Office, stated that the activity aligns with regional development priorities. “This program supports Purworejo’s development goals, especially in public health. We are very grateful to UNDIP for making a real contribution,” he said.

Al-Khoifin Mosque leader H. Sulaiman also expressed gratitude for the event. “We saw firsthand the enthusiasm of the residents. Even at an early hour, people were already lining up, and everyone benefited from these services. We are very thankful,” he said.

A total of 40 health workers took part, including general practitioners, specialists, nurses, and laboratory staff from Diponegoro National Hospital (RSND). They were supported by students from the Faculty of Medicine (including the Pharmacy program), the Faculty of Public Health, and the volunteers from LPPM UNDIP, who handled administration and medication distribution. Cross-sector collaboration ensured the provision of smooth and orderly services.

This community service program is part of the implementation of “Diktisaintek Berdampak,” focusing not only on ceremonial activities but also on strategic efforts to reach underserved areas. UNDIP regularly surveys different regions to determine program locations, ensuring that benefits extend to coastal, mountain, and inland communities across Jawa Tengah.

Beyond health services, this initiative reflects UNDIP’s commitment to supporting Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-being, ensuring communities have access to proper healthcare. UNDIP stands not only as an academic institution that bridges education with social care, but also as a community partner in improving the quality of life.

With the spirit of “Noble and Valuable UNDIP” in line with the “Diktisaintek Berdampak” program, this social service in Purworejo is concrete proof that collaboration and social responsibility between universities, local governments, and communities can bring about real, positive change. UNDIP is committed to continuing similar programs across Jawa Tengah, extending its impact to more communities and realizing knowledge that truly benefits society.
