International Community Service by UNDIP Vocational School Lecturer Introduces Indonesian Culinary Culture at RWTH Aachen University, Germany

UNDIP, Germany (October 22, 2025) – As part of the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, a lecturer from the Industrial Chemical Engineering Technology (TRKI) Study Program, Vocational School, Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), carried out an International Community Service activity at RWTH Aachen University, Germany. Held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at 12:00 CEST, Anggun Puspitarini Siswanto, S.T., Ph.D., delivered a presentation on Indonesian culture and cuisine to students at RWTH Aachen University. Adopting the theme “Bites of Culture – The Science of Indonesian Culinary Traditions,” this event took the form of a Brown Bag Lecture and was part of RWTH Aachen University’s Go Abroad Week program.

The International Community Service team also included TRKI lecturers Prof. Dr. Ir. Budiyono, M.Si., Dr. Mohamad Endy Yulianto, S.T., M.T., Hermawan Dwi Ariyanto, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., Abdullah Malik Islam Fillardli, S.T., M.T., and Teguh Riyanto, S.T., M.T. The international audience enthusiastically welcomed the presentation, with lively discussions on Indonesian culture and cuisine warming up the autumn atmosphere in Europe.

Participants discussed topics such as the taste of Lontong Opor, the origin of the name Mie Tek-tek, and the unique Tahu Gimbal from Semarang. In addition, Anggun also introduced Universitas Diponegoro, with the hope of fostering greater interest among RWTH Aachen students in participating in exchange programs between the two universities. Anggun currently serves as a Visiting Fellow at Metallurgische Prozesstechnik und Metallrecycling (IME) under the Theodore von Kármán Fellowship 2025 program.

“It is good to learn there is so much to offer in Indonesia, both in its culture and cuisine. The presentation shows many more tourism objects in Indonesia—from Taman Leuser National Park in Sumatera Island, Bunaken in Manado City, to Lawang Sewu in Semarang City—not just the famous Bali Island or Lombok,” said one of the German students.

This activity not only introduced Indonesia in general but also specifically highlighted the city of Semarang and Universitas Diponegoro to the international community. This spirit aligns with UNDIP’s achievements as a World-Class University, supporting its academic community to become noble and impactful global citizens.
