UNDIP, Semarang (October 28, 2025) – Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) once again demonstrates its excellence as a high-impact, competitive research university at the national level. Based on the latest data released by the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (Direktorat Jenderal Kekayaan Intelektual / DJKI) of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, processed by GoodStats on October 25, 2025, UNDIP ranked second among Indonesian universities with the most patent applications over the past decade (2015–2024), with a total of 1,165 patent applications.
UNDIP’s position is just below Universitas Andalas (1,910 applications) and slightly above Universitas Brawijaya (1,136 applications). The subsequent ranks are occupied by Universitas Gadjah Mada (962), Institut Pertanian Bogor (813), Universitas Indonesia (786), Universitas Sam Ratulangi (768), Universitas Negeri Malang (710), Universitas Sumatera Utara (655), and Institut Teknologi Bandung (620).
This achievement reaffirms UNDIP’s commitment to strengthening research and innovation, which provide tangible benefits to society. It aligns with the spirit of “Noble and Valuable UNDIP” and serves as a concrete manifestation of support for the Diktisaintek Berdampak Program.
UNDIP Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., expressed his appreciation to the entire academic community for this accomplishment. According to him, the achievement reflects the growing academic culture within the university, where research and innovation are integral to the Tri Dharma of higher education.
“Ranking second nationally in patent applications is the result of collective work born from a commitment to making innovation a form of service. We want every UNDIP researcher not only to think creatively but also to ensure that their work brings real benefits to society. UNDIP will continue to be a university that is dignified in knowledge and impactful in its works,” said Prof. Suharnomo.

Meanwhile, Wijayanto, S.IP., M.Si., Ph.D., Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, Collaboration, and Public Communication, emphasized that this achievement reflects UNDIP’s integrated research strategy, which prioritizes downstream implementation and intellectual property protection.
“UNDIP continues to strengthen its research mentoring and intellectual property management systems so that innovation doesn’t stop in the laboratory but emerges as real solutions for society. This movement is our form of commitment to sustainability and impactful innovation,” he explained.
Furthermore, drh. Dian Wahyu Harjanti, Ph.D., The Director of Innovation, Downstreaming, and Cooperation at UNDIP stated that this accomplishment is not merely about the number of patents filed, but also about the significance of innovations emerging from the university that have a concrete social impact. “UNDIP continues to strengthen its partnership networks with industry to ensure that research downstreaming runs effectively and sustainably. Moreover, with an increasingly mature research ecosystem, the university is confident in becoming a pioneer in innovation that supports national self-reliance. We are committed to ensuring that UNDIP’s research and innovation truly create impact and deliver real benefits for society, the nation, and the state,” she remarked.
This achievement also reflects UNDIP’s tangible contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
- SDG 4 (Quality Education) through the enhancement of research-based, innovative learning,
- SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by driving innovation downstream into industrial sectors,
- SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) through increased patents and appropriate technologies, and
