Universitas Diponegoro and KONI Semarang City Strengthen Collaboration to Support Sports Achievement and Athlete Empowerment

UNDIP, Semarang (November 10, 2025) – Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) has strengthened its commitment to building an impactful campus ecosystem by signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Indonesian National Sports Committee (Komite Olahraga Nasional Indonesia / KONI) of Semarang City. This collaboration marks a strategic step to optimize the use of sports facilities managed by the UNDIP Commercial Business Management and Risk Analysis Agency (BPUBIKAR) to support the enhancement of sports achievements in Semarang City.

The signing ceremony took place in the Rector’s Meeting Room, Widya Puraya Building, UNDIP Tembalang Campus, on Monday, November 10, 2025, and was attended by the Rector of Universitas Diponegoro, Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., university leadership, Chairman of KONI Semarang City Arnaz Agung Andrarasmara, S.E., M.M., along with board members and athletes.

Chairman of KONI Semarang City, Arnaz Agung Andrarasmara, S.E., M.M., stated that this collaboration with UNDIP is a significant achievement for the sports sector in Semarang. “We have signed many MoUs, but for us, this partnership with UNDIP is extraordinary. UNDIP has world-class and highly representative sports facilities that will greatly support the improvement of training quality and the organization of sports events in Semarang,” he said.

He added that this collaboration is a strategic step toward the 2026 Provincial Sports Week (Pekan Olahraga Provinsi / Porprov), where Semarang City is committed not only to achieving excellence but also to the execution of the event. “The Mayor instructed us to organize Porprov as grand as possible—on par with the SEA Games. All economic and social sectors in Semarang City must work together. One of the keys to success is having proper venues, and in our view, UNDIP already has them,” he explained.

Furthermore, the KONI Chairman emphasized that the organization continues to prioritize athlete welfare through comprehensive support. “We are the only KONI in Indonesia certified with ISO 9001, which enables budget efficiency so that 85 percent of our funds go directly to sports branches. All our athletes are protected through BPJS, provided with free physiotherapy facilities, and included in the ‘Semarang Emas’ program for gold medalists and potential gold medal winners,” he said.

Rector of Universitas Diponegoro, Prof. Suharnomo, expressed full support for this collaboration. “We are very open to all forms of cooperation, including the use of our campus sports facilities. UNDIP has international-level venues such as the Muladi Dome, Susilo Wibowo basketball court, futsal field, and the Polytron Stadium Badminton Arena, which have been used for various national events, including POMNAS,” he said.

The Rector also highlighted that this partnership aligns with UNDIP’s vision to broaden its social impact and provide opportunities for outstanding sports talents. “Each year, we admit more than a hundred students through the achievement pathway (SBUB). If there are talented athletes from Semarang City, we are very open to giving wider opportunities, including scholarships for gold medalists and champions at provincial or national levels,” he added.

The collaboration between UNDIP and KONI Semarang City is expected to extend beyond the signing of the agreement, evolving into sustainable programs that deliver tangible benefits for the community and the sports sector. This MoU marks the beginning of synergy between the university and sports organizations to advance athlete development, facility provision, and the overall quality of sports activities in Semarang City.
