Creating an Orderly and Safe Traffic Environment on Campus, UNDIP Holds Driving Ethics Education

UNDIP, Semarang (December 2, 2025) – Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), through the Work Safety, Occupational Health, and Environmental Unit (UPT K3L), held a Driving Ethics Education activity for UNDIP students in 2025 to raise traffic safety awareness on campus. This activity also supports the implementation of Rector’s Circular No. 15 of 2023 concerning Traffic Regulations in the UNDIP area.

The event, held on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, took place in Enviro Hall, 5th Floor of the Computer Engineering Laboratory Building. In his report, the Head of UPT K3L, Dr. Bina Kurniawan, SKM., M.Kes., noted an increase in accidents at UNDIP over the past three months, with 80–90 percent of the victims being students. “The most common case is speeding. Inside UNDIP, the maximum speed is 30 km/h. If possible, even 20—go slow. What matters is staying safe,” he said.

The Head of UPT LKDPDEM, Dr. Annastasia Ediyati, S.Psi., M.Sc., Ph.D., emphasized in her remarks that driving discipline is part of student ethics. “If we don’t wear a helmet when riding a motorcycle, it’s the same as saying our mind isn’t important,” she stated. She hopes students can set an example by building safe, respectful driving behavior among all road users.

The Vice Rector for Planning, Finance, Assets, Business, and Household Affairs, Dr. Warsito Kawedar, S.E., M.Si., Ak., reaffirmed the university’s commitment to ensuring a safe campus environment. “Safety starts with simple things, one of which is wearing a helmet consistently. Moving forward, several university policies will be introduced as part of efforts to achieve Zero Accident,” he explained.

The main session featured a presentation by the first speaker, Dr. Dina Lusiana Setiawati, M.Kes., a lecturer at Universitas Mulawarman and UNDIP Public Health doctoral alumna. Presenting the results of her research on student driving behavior, she explained that UNDIP students are a high-risk group for accidents. “Students actually want a safe and comfortable campus environment, and the most effective educational medium for them is short videos on Instagram,” she explained.

She also introduced a driving safety education model she developed, which has received UNDIP copyright, as part of efforts to create an orderly traffic culture on campus.

The next session was delivered by Senior Safety Riding Instructor of Astra Motor Central Java, Oke Desiyanto, S.T., who discussed the theme of Slow Down Zone Awareness on campus. Based on his observations at several high-risk spots, he found concerning driving behaviors. “Within 10 minutes of observation, there is always a rider going against the flow or crossing lane markings. The slope near the Psychology building is a favorite spot for speeding because the lane widens,” he explained.

In his material, Oke stressed that increasing awareness is the key to reducing accident risks. He encouraged students to take an active role in creating a safety culture, including through digital content. “Awareness is what makes the difference. If you love UNDIP, let’s help build a positive vibe for driving safety,” he added.

The Director of UNDIP Media Network, Community, and Public Communication, Dr. Nurul Hasfi, M.A., concluded the educational sessions with material on social media ethics. She reminded students that they play a significant role in spreading safety-related content. “Safety information is important to share in the media. Make sure it is created wisely and with attention to digital ethics. We believe content from peers is more easily received,” she said.

The event concluded with a safety riding practice session led by Oke Desiyanto and his team, which demonstrated braking techniques, motorcycle control, and safe maneuvers in the campus area. Through this activity, Universitas Diponegoro reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening an orderly traffic culture and aims to establish a Traffic-Orderly Campus and Zero Accident throughout the entire campus area.
