DWP UNDIP Study on “Fiqh of Inheritance” Discusses Distribution of Assets According to Sharia

UNDIP, Semarang (July 25, 2025) – To enhance understanding of inheritance distribution, the Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) of Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) held an online religious study session themed “Fiqh of Inheritance” via Zoom Meeting on Friday, July 25, 2025.

The event featured speaker M. Basuni Baihaqi, Lc, who delivered a comprehensive discussion on the principles of inheritance distribution under Islamic jurisprudence (Fiqh) and its application within the context of Islamic law.

In her remarks, DWP UNDIP Chair Dewi Widayani Suharnomo, S.H., M.Pd., said, “Understanding the fiqh of inheritance is crucial so that the distribution of inheritance can be carried out fairly and in accordance with Islamic law. Through this study session, we hope to gain accurate and Sharia-compliant insights.”

As host of the event, DWP UNDIP Rectorate Chair Dr. R.R. Sri Handayani Warsito, S.E., Akt., M.Si., stated that the fiqh of inheritance provides the knowledge needed to understand who is entitled to receive inheritance, how much each heir is entitled to, and how to implement the distribution properly.

During his presentation, M. Basuni Baihaqi explained that in Indonesia, there are several legal references regarding inheritance distribution, including Islamic jurisprudence (Fiqh), the Compilation of Islamic Law; Ijma and Qiyas customary law, and state law. “Fiqh on inheritance explains the distribution of the property left by the deceased to the heirs in accordance with the provisions of the Qur’an and Hadith. Its main purpose is to ensure justice and prevent disputes within the family,” he said.

The study session covered the foundations of fiqh of inheritance, distribution rights according to the Qur’an, contemporary cases, and simulations of inheritance distribution based on the science of faraid.

Participants paid close attention to the materials presented, as fiqh of inheritance often becomes a source of conflict in society due to a lack of proper understanding. Speaker M. Basuni Baihaqi also emphasized, “At least one person in each family should understand the laws of inheritance,” he concluded.

This regular DWP UNDIP study session is part of its ongoing effort to enhance Islamic religious knowledge for all its members, particularly in the field of muamalah (social transactions) that directly relate to daily life. (Public Communication/ UNDIP/ Syahra, ed. Ut)
