UNDIP, Semarang (November 29, 2025) – Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) received a visit from the National Commission on Disability of the Republic of Indonesia (Komisi Nasional Disabilitas / KND RI) during a Cooperative Audience session held on Friday, November 28, 2025, in the Rector’s Meeting Room, Widya Puraya Building, 2nd Floor, UNDIP Tembalang Campus. This session aimed to formulate strategic steps to strengthen disability services, improve campus accessibility, and develop reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities to create an inclusive campus environment.
In his remarks, UNDIP Rector expressed appreciation for KND’s visit and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to building an inclusive educational environment.
“We are very grateful for the presence of Dr. Rachmita and all colleagues at UNDIP. Our tagline is Noble and Valuable. We are very welcoming, and in general, we already have the organization in place—Mrs. Annastasia, who serves as the Head of the Center for Consultation Services, Disability, Discipline Enforcement, and Student Ethics. I believe most of our facilities are already disability-friendly, and UNDIP is among the universities that welcome almost all types of disabilities,” said Prof. Suharnomo.
Prof. Suharnomo also stated that UNDIP has collected data on students with and without disabilities in accordance with requests from the Directorate General of Higher Education (Ditjen Dikti), and expressed hope that the audience session would open opportunities for more structured collaboration moving forward.
Dr. Rachmita Maun Harahap, S.T., M.Sn, expressed her appreciation for UNDIP’s efforts in building an inclusive campus environment. “Allow me to express my sincere appreciation for UNDIP’s commitment to creating an inclusive campus environment,” said the Commissioner of KND RI, commonly known as Dr. Mita.
In her presentation, Dr. Mita outlined the national regulatory framework related to reasonable accommodation for students with disabilities, including regulations that address the interests and rights of persons with disabilities. She emphasized the importance of Disability Service Units (Unit Layanan Disabilitas / ULD) in higher education institutions as centers for accessibility services, needs assessment, and student assistance.
Her presentation served as a foundation for deeper discussions on the implementation of disability services at UNDIP.
A discussion session, moderated by the Deputy Director of Innovation and Industrial Downstreaming, Dr. I Made Bayu Dirgantara, S.E., M.M., provided space to explore the real needs of students with disabilities, challenges in the field, and strategies for future collaboration.
Annastasia Ediati, S.Psi., M.Sc., Ph.D., Head of the Center for Consultation Services, Disability, Discipline Enforcement, and Student Ethics (LKDPDEM), presented the current state of disability services at UNDIP. She explained the three-stage process of mapping students with disabilities.
“There are three stages in identifying students with disabilities. First, we send official letters to all faculties and schools requesting data on the number of students with disabilities and the types of disabilities. The second stage is Self-Reporting through the SSO, an academic information system accessible to students. The third stage is conducting a roadshow to all faculties and schools—13 in total—to introduce the unit, the services it provides, and how students can access them,” explained Annastasia, Ph.D.
She also elaborated on the three main functions of LKDPDEM: providing consultation services for all students, including academic and non-academic issues; providing services for students with disabilities; and handling cases of violence and non-violent related to disciplinary and ethical violations, all offered free of charge to students.
Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. dr. Yan Wisnu Prajoko, M.Kes., Sp.B., Subsp.Onk(K), stated that this meeting offered new perspectives regarding the needs of students with disabilities, including mental disabilities, which have received little attention. He emphasized the importance of fair and objective assessments in student admissions, as well as appropriate support throughout their education.
“This may become a shared responsibility; once they become students, it is our duty to help them and support them optimally until they graduate,” he stressed.
Head of the Master’s Program, Costrie Ganes Widayanti, S.Psi., M.Si.Med., Ph.D., representing the Dean of the Faculty of Psychology, Prof. Dian Ratna Sawitri, S.Psi., M.Si., Ph.D., shared that the Faculty of Psychology routinely holds programs related to ‘Disability Matters’ to commemorate International Day of Persons with Disabilities, including workshops on interacting with deaf and blind individuals, as well as webinars on disability-friendly campuses.
She also emphasized that disability should be understood as a shared social issue, not merely an individual concern. “This becomes a collective responsibility for academics—not only lecturers, but also encouraging students to pay attention to disability issues. General society should also understand that this issue needs a more appropriate response,” she explained.
Additional insights were shared, including from Dr. Mita, represented by Akbar Alfado, S.I.Kom., Executive Staff of AyL KND RI; Michelle Layanto, Secretary of the Indonesian Sign Language Center (PUSBISINDO); and Dimas, Secretary of the Determination Chair of the Gerakan untuk Kesejahteraan Tunarungu Indonesia (Gerkatin) Jawa Tengah.
The event was also attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Public Health, Dr. Budiyono, S.KM., M.Kes.; Administration Manager of the Directorate of Innovation, Downstreaming, and Cooperation, Mas Anantha Budhy Prakosa, S.T., M.Si.; Cooperation Supervisor, Novian Rustamaji, S.Kom.; and other relevant officials.
The event concluded with the presentation of mementos and the signing of a memorandum of understanding, marking a collaborative commitment to developing disability services at UNDIP that truly fulfill the rights of all students and strengthen the university’s ongoing mission to create an equal and inclusive campus for everyone.
